The famous saying “A competent leader can get efficient service from poor troops, while on the contrary an incapable leader can demoralize the best of troops” brings out the significance of an efficient statesmanship. The Indian state of Kerala, which has for decades been the most literate state of the nation, is being jolted by the recurrent strokes of mass migration, owing to the catastrophic policies of the ruling Left regimes.
The current state of affairs in Kerala has been rightly pointed out by Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2013, when he admonished the Left parties for heading Kerala towards “wrong side of history” with their lopsided and obsolete outlook and programmes that are not relevant to the time.
Catastrophic policy paralysis of Communist Kerala Government
The global leaders are optimistic that India will become a hub of future talent. On the contrary, the youth talent basket of India is getting lured to foreign soil, with the brain drain phenomenon from the southern state of Kerala witnessing an upsurge at an alarming rate.
The success story of Kerala that had the highest Human Development Index (HDI) of 0.784 as per 2018 census; with the highest literacy rate of 96.2% in the 2018 literacy survey is getting overshadowed with increased emigration and migration. It is estimated that around 25,000-30,000 students from Kerala are flying annually to foreign countries for higher education. Most of them even stay back after grabbing jobs in these nations.
The disastrous migration phenomenon can be illustrated from the fact that the population of State of Kerala constitutes 23% of youth below 25 years of age, in contrast to the national average of 50.1%. No doubt that Kerala is aging at a drastic rate and at the heart of this policy lays the ill-perceived policy of the ‘Communist Kerala Government’.
The outdated and disgraceful impact of policy paralysis can be further brought to light by the fact that Kerala reported youth unemployment rate at over 40% in the April-June 2022 period, which by no standards can be considered acceptable given the past accolades of the State.

India rising, Kerala falling!
Ironically the global phenomenon depicts that developed and educated societies amass talents from abroad and prosper the talent pool accumulated thereafter. Contrary to this, the most educated state of India, with the second-most urbanized population (47.7% urban population) along with the accolade of being the second-least impoverished state in India, has been subjected to the fallacies of en mass migration owing to lack of initiatives on the part of current and previous leftist regimes.
Though, the populace of Kerala still seems to have not learned the hard lesson. Their aging population and mass influx of migrant laborers in contrast to en mass migration of intellectual community would leave the state in tatters with no looking back.
On the contrary, the growth story of India under the leadership of PM Modi seems to furnish the youths with lucrative opportunities as has been pointed out by various think tanks around the globe.
As has been rightly pointed out by McKinsey & Co CEO, Bob Sternfels who has predicted that India would be the world’s future expertise manufacturing unit as it is expected to have 20 percent of the globe’s working inhabitants by 2047. Amidst such optimistic claims with the world powers aligning with India for strategic partnership, the citizens and youths of Kerala should opt for staying back in their motherland.
Wake up call for Kerala & CM Pinarayi Vijayan
The major hurdle in the leapfrogging of the State lies in the polity of the region. Unless and until the rustic ideologically hypocritical regime of the State is not ousted out of power, the populace would continue to suffer from the menace of growing rate of migration and excessive brain drain owing to lack of opportunities for the intellectual youths.
Moreover, the alarming state of affairs also mandates intervention from Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan who appears to be not bothered by the mounting rate of brain drain from the State. He seems to be busy cherishing the brownie points he scores on account of his close affiliation to the biased intellectual community of the nation.
