Amit Shah’s birthday gift to China-funded, Sonia-run Rajiv Gandhi Foundation

What do you think it irks the left-liberal cabal so much about the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, and his government? The reason is his ruthless crackdown on foreign-funded NGOs. Earlier, foreign funding was being pumped into India in the name of donations to these NGOs, which later used it to run their anti-national propaganda.

The sources of these huge donations/funds remained undisclosed, while they were actively running their anti-development and anti-India agendas. Under the Congress, these NGOs had a free reign. However, times have been tough since 2014.

How India became a breeding ground for NGOs

First, let’s understand the need for NGOs. Because of the limitations of resources, governments in India have traditionally found it difficult to distribute resources equitably among various states.

This gap created the breeding ground for NGOs. Seeing the geographical hardships and Congress’ agenda to keep the poor poor, NGOs got their place in society. And since time untraceable, NGOs have been functioning in India without much regulation and oversight.

Owing to their spread, their activities have gone unchecked and so have their funds. This can be credited to Congress’ lethargy. However, the BJP discovered early on what the Congress had failed to do for decades: the infamous NGO nexus.

PM Modi’s crackdown on NGOs

It was a chaotic situation when PM Modi stepped in. There were mass religious conversions going on, with organisations having cover as NGO. The conversion brigade, masquerading as non-political agendas, influenced the immediate political situation very well. Further, infrastructure development was hindered by their ‘protests’, for example, Kudankulam nuclear plant agitation.

The Modi government then put the FCRA Act to good use, and curbed the menace of NGOs. The FCRA licenses of thousands of NGOs have been cancelled, and many have been forced to close their anti-India shops due to a lack of funds. The message from the central government was clear: follow the rules, do not be a road block to India’s progress, and grow on ethical money. However, it appears that the Congress-run NGO has failed to abide by the same.

FCRA licence of Rajiv Gandhi Foundation cancelled

On the occasion of his birthday, Union Minister Amit Shah’s Ministry of Home Affairs has cancelled the FCRA licence of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF) and Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust (RGCT) organisations. This is being run by the Nehru-Gandhi family, headed by Sonia Gandhi, and consists of top leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, and P Chidambaram.

The action has been taken upon the organisations citing outcomes of  the investigations carried out by an inter-ministerial committee, formed by the Ministry of Home Affairs after the BJP alleged that RGF was receiving funds from the embassy of China.

The committee headed by a special director from the Enforcement Directorate (ED), along with members from the CIT, Income Tax Department, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Urban Development, and Ministry of Home Affairs investigated funds received by these organisations with respect to violations of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), FCRA, and the Income Tax Act.

Rajiv Gandhi Foundation and the allegations

The foundation was set up on June 21, 1991, and since then, several allegations have been floated against it. The recent being that, in June 2020, it was revealed that the Congress party has been having financial dealings with the People’s Republic of China, or the CCP, as the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation received funds from China.

Moreover, it has also been revealed that the same ‘think tank’ had received funds from the PMNRF. In 2006, the Chinese embassy donated close to INR 10 lakh to the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, which is an alleged social betterment initiative of the Congress.

In reality, the People’s Republic of China had been giving a lot of money to the establishment of Congress for more than just one year—it continued after 2005–2006. The Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Contemporary Studies (RGICS), New Delhi, received these kind “donations” from the CCP for the ensuing years. The CCP also gave the RGICS an undisclosed sum in the years 2005–2006. The Rajiv Gandhi Foundation received a donation of 90 lakh rupees from the CCP in the years 2006–2007. The foundation received more than one crore rupees from China in just the past two years.

After receiving significant funding from China, the RGF, which is controlled by the Congress, commissioned the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Contemporary Studies to conduct a study in 2009–2010 that called for an immediate “Free Trade Agreement” between India and China, arguing that doing so would be much more advantageous to India. This way, the grand old party was serving the nation. However, Amit Shah has done the necessary.
