Jasleen Kaur – We do not want a fake hero this time, this better be real

In a nation where crime against women is not a rare phenomenon, when we see a lady standing for herself what is our first natural reaction?

Good job lady.

You made us proud.

You are so brave.

You inspire us!

When the Rohtak sisters sprang onto the eve teasers in a public bus with belts and slippers. What did we do? We stood up and clapped. We are a nation starved of heroes. And when we find an unlikely hero in a lady, our chests swell with pride. For us Maa Durga renounces her idol form and comes out to protect the dignity of the womankind. The Rohtak Sisters were heroes for us.

When a lady confronted a traffic cop in the national capital, we clapped again. Not many can stare the Vardiwallahs right in their eyes. She was a hero for us again. Arvind Kejriwal, the epitome of honesty called her for a “Chai pe Charcha” and awarded her with a cash prize.

Another lady, a Muslim Lady refused to bow down to bigoted property dealers of Mumbai. They denied her a flat in a Hindu society, she showed them the true power of woman and also their place.

And now we have yet another hero in Jasleen Kaur. She showed an eve teaser that Girls are no weaklings and no one can intimidate them just like that. The girl utilized the power of Internet to pin the culprit. The culprit is nabbed and the internet is abuzz with the latest superhero of the nation. Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi’s part time CM and fulltime superhero is praising the latest hero on the block again. And this time he has found an unlikely ally in Delhi Police. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Pushpendra Kumar said that Jasleen Kaur will be awarded Rs 5,000 for her bravery of being able to talk about the incident openly.

Congratulate @jasleenkaur89 for her bravery. Girls of Delhi should follow her & speak up against such unacceptable acts

— Arvind Kejriwal (@ArvindKejriwal) August 24, 2015

The sad part is that Rohtak Sisters were liars and bullies. The lady who confronted the traffic cop violated traffic rules and then tried to slip away without furnishing a fine. The Muslim lady’s version of story was ripped apart by the probing authorities but Jasleen Kaur is still a hero ‘probably’ because the case has just come to light. As a fan of the power of Internet, I sincerely hope Jasleen Kaur stays a hero and doesn’t turn into another Rohtak Sister, or the lady who bullied a cop or the one who created a scene about nothing.

TheAtulMishra[3]

TheAtulMishra[4]

But this trend is alarming. ALARMING. This Car and Bicycle mentality is disconcerting. DISCONCERTING. We decide the victim and the perpetrator just like that. Oh a Car knocked a cycle down, set the goddamn car ablaze, the Car driver is a culprit for sure. Oh a nice lady slapped a man in open daylight, the man must be a lecher. The bastard got what he deserved. What is the point of probe agencies, police, judges and courts then when cases can be solved on Facebook and Twitter with the help of a simple photograph? Without the testimonials of witnesses, without an audio or video proof? I am not trying to take the alleged eve teaser’s side but what if he is innocent? His life is screwed for sure. And the rumor mill is already abuzz with a different version of the story. A snapshot is already doing rounds of the internet where Jasleen Kaur is being projected as an Aam Aadmi Party insider who is slated to play a big role in Delhi University’s elections. I could have added the snapshot in this article, but hey! I trust the system and do not accuse before the truth is out. I am sure the truth will soon be out in the open. If it turns out to be a hoax again, I’ll be ashamed as a citizen of this country!

Your entire argument is around possibilities and you very cleverly quote cases where in the perpetrator was deemed a hero purely due the circumstances of this country. Honestly, you are as biased in your arguments as the people you criticize here. Who should bare the burden of proof- the defendant or the plaintiff? The simple answer is- only the degree of crime should decide that. For people who are “moved” by facebook posts, their ranting and “burn him/her alive” tactics are restricted to the internet. The only “damage” this perpetrator might suffer is a bad image in social media. My point is both his guilt (which you barely spoke of) or her credibility (which you conveniently questioned by adding examples) should not be judged based on social media! But then again, it’s not a perfect world and this is a poorly constructed article.

you are mistaken if you think that damage to alleged prepetrator was limited to social media humility. Accused in case of rohtak sisters has lost chance of lifetime when he was banned from appearing in military exam.

    • disqus_hHRQKEQ3NV says:

You are assuming here that he has been proven guilty. And this happens with rape victims too. The social stigma attached with a rape is worse if not as bad as being accused for one. A lot of women who undergo rape either end up dead or ostracized by society. Quoting the Rohtak Sisters case is misleading here. I just think we should stop playing the judge here.

    • jadwal says:

i am not judging anyone, infact i am against the inherent judgemental mindset which calls complainant as ‘braveheart’ and accused as ‘pervert’

    • Pooja L says:

It’s like calling all men rapists because a few did it. Yeah so a couple of girls lied so all girls must be liars! They bring up one case and forget all the rest. Generalisation is what people are best at. And if someone speaks a little sense they’ll talk about the judgemental mindsets while passing judgement without proof themselves.

You want a better example… Let me quote a very relevant example of MP.

The accused was a retired, elderly 60+ Man. The lady who accused him for rape lives on rent in his one of the flats.

After, media and social media outrage, the gentleman was caught, underwent severe trials and torture. When the case came to court and luckily, police officer in command took risk against social media justice system, and investigated only to find the person was innocent and the accusers were the real culprit.

The man was acquitted by court. but the dent in his psyche was never healed. He committed suicide after few days of his acquittal.

Social media humiliation is much wide, unlike local humiliation. it spreads too far…. it is a power, and with power comes the responsibility phrase from the movie “Spiderman” is much more relevant here.

    • Styx says:

In cases like these, the burden of proof rests with the plaintiff. The defendant is “innocent until proven guilty.”

Unless your definition of proof is a post on Facebook with an accompanying photograph.

Yes we are ashamed of these people born in our country but not the country itself.

Its easy these days click a picture and bring shame to him/her.
Don’t know why police arrested the guy without any proof, just because complaint was done by a girl.
Where is gender equality? if this goes on, right men will be going out in hijab so that they are not put in false case.
Few Men are wrong but it doesn’t mean All women are always right.
    so
before any action a thorough investigation should be done. Before
    naming a person pervert.
what if a boy would have said the same , would there be any action
    by police.
But the boy would have been arrested for taking pictures.
so my humble request that whoever is wrong should be arrested and justice should prevail not on basis of Gender but TRUTH.

Don’t worry Pradeep. India is a country where women is most respected gender but we can not leave the bad ones. Innocents are facing lots of problems because of false cases in this country. False allegations against men are common now a days to fulfill vengeance. So only good ones deserve respect and bad will be thrashed out irrespective of gender.

Although it the girl is found culprit, the media will stay away from this case as far as possible to avoid embarrassment, and no action will be taken against her. Not commenting about the actual case.

This lady claims all through and in her facebook page

    “*Issued in Public interest*

    1) I cannot contest DUSU elections because i study in St.Stephen’s College, which is not a part of DUSU.

But u follow her entire timeline, she has a lot of interest in activities, results, delays in revaluations, NGOs of DU students and requesting all those affected to contact her. Of course, with no political ambitions !!!! Mind u interest is only in case of Delhi University and no other institution !!!

Also, Seherr is a non profitable organisation with stated objective “Seherr is a virtual non profit endeavor by a few college students building bridges between those in need and those willing to help. We are a platform that seeks to disseminate information about organizations, events and social projects which invite volunteers and interns to help the disadvantaged and the needy” makes an exception and posts the exact replica of Miss Jasleen’s facebook post at 2301. Has it got to do with she being one of the members or is there more than that meets the eye ?

Unfortunately for the guy, the our media has gone overboard and passed the judgement about he being everything but normal. His clarification/ bail/ judicial process & investigation in progress not withstanding his status and reference in most news channels continues to be # Pervert, Sex Maniac etc but not Accused.

    Even more unfortunate is
corrupt politicians convicted and out on bail and appealing in higher court become accused
    Ditto for murderers, Rapists, terrorists.
Please spare the guy and let the law take its course instead of ruining his life before the final judgement.

I also sincerely hope this incident is not for strengthening the case for Delhi Police control with CM of Delhi

Now a days molestation cases are over hyped because media is getting TRP from these cases. Without knowing the real story a innocent guy face harassment because of pre declared mentality that woman is right. For this not only the media but the government and people of India are equally responsible. Men are facing false cases all over the country and harassed more then women.

Why should you be ashamed of anything, you did not do it and it is a human tendency to accept the seen and distorted ‘truth’ but sometimes we have to let our judgment make the right decision….. I am not saying there is no wrong or evil person there are and I have seen some of them but it does not mean that we should always categorized men in the bad light and women in the good…..I being a girl from a foreign country, has so many times asked for help from women they always have been negative to help, and men they help without even being mean or rude they do help…..there is no shame for anyone except this girl who did belittle herself and will be branded as a liar if the case is proven right…..
No need for the shame thing in this…..women have taken wrong advantage of something granted to them there is still time for some women to take the world in the positive way.

She needs to get a kick up her rear for defaming an innocent person. Mr Arnab Goswami and the other Reporters really need to curb their mouths and learn some investigative journalism… dont just do things for the sake of TRP.

No news channel has done fair journalism in this case except Zee News.

Thanks to zee news for showing other part of story also.

News channel Times Now is giving Judgements as if they are supreme court and Arnab Goswami is chief justice with their reporters as lawyer of that girl.

this casts a shadow of doubt on all such complaints being filed by women and promoted by social media websites . false complaints like this are causing havoc to lives of innocent people and destroying our social structure . why is police taking action in such haste , without any investigation or verification ?? is that not common sense ?

It’s sad that Jasleen too may likely fall into the same category as the other women in this article… Truly sad… I really did swell with pride that pigs can’t get away with nonsense, and now she might be the pig… Let’s hope she doesn’t get away with it, if it’s all a lie…
