The illegal occupation of the Waqf Board has been a great cause of concern in India. One after the other, Waqf has been staking its claim on government as well as private properties in different parts of the country. Now it has come to light that the Waqf Board has occupied a Hindu majority village in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh. It has also issued a notice asking locals to vacate the land within 7 days. It has even staked claims on an ancient Hindu temple and cremation ground.
The villagers said that they have been living on this land for more than 150 years.
According to media reports, this matter pertains to Makhani village in Raisen. The Waqf Board has sent notice to 7 families living here. In the notice, they have been asked to leave the land within 7 days warning that if they don’t leave the land, legal action will be taken and these houses will be demolished. The notice has worried the locals.
Following the Waqf board notice, the frightened villagers reached Raisen Collectorate and submitted an application to Collector Arun Kumar Vishwakarma demanding intervention. The villagers stated that their families have been living on this land for many generations. On the contrary, this land is being shown as government land in the Khasra.
Strikingly, the villagers have got these houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and these were government lands in government papers. But now, the Waqf has illegally staked a claim on theirs.
Questioning the claims of the Waqf Board, a village said, “We will lose our lives but will not vacate this land. An ancient historical temple and crematorium are also built on this land. If this was the land of the Waqf Board, then how did we get a house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.”
Notorious for its usurping claims, the Waqf Board alleged that this land belongs to the graveyard. Its area is more than 3 acres and it was waqfed by a person named Kadar Patel. However, when the media asked for proof, the waqf was unable to produce the documents related to it.
Raisen Collector Arun Kumar Vishwakarma said, “The matter has come to notice. It will be investigated. The matter will become clear only after hearing both the parties and seeing the documents.”
