Chandu Champion: With the tragic loss of Sushant Singh Rajput, the Indian film industry, particularly Bollywood, mourned the departure of a talented actor. Along with his untimely demise, some of his ambitious projects, which had the potential to reshape his tumultuous career, came to an abrupt halt. However, it appears that two rather unexpected individuals are now determined to fulfill one of Sushant’s cherished dreams – to bring the life and achievements of the boxer turned Paralympic gold medalist, Murlikant Petkar, to the silver screen.
Kabir Khan, a director known for his controversial aptitude, yet a string of successful films, is gearing up for a grand comeback with “Chandu Champion.” Upcoming movie Chandu Champion is an adaptation of Murlikant’s inspiring journey, from his trials and tribulations to his historic triumph at the Heidelberg Paralympics in 1972. The film is set to hit theaters by June 2024.
Murlikant Petkar’s life story is nothing short of a captivating biopic. A school dropout, he initially pursued a career in wrestling but was compelled to leave his village due to a local dispute. He later joined the Indian Army and quickly made a name for himself as a promising boxer, one who had the potential to bring glory to India. Tragically, his participation in the 1965 war left him paralyzed below the waist.
Despite this devastating setback, Murlikant did not give up. He turned to para sports and went on to create history as India’s first individual gold medalist in any format of the Olympics. In 1972, he won a gold medal in swimming at the Heidelberg Paralympics, setting a world record. It took 36 years for an able-bodied athlete to match his achievement when Abhinav Bindra finally secured an Olympic gold medal for shooting at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
Interestingly, with every sneak peek into Kabir Khan’s latest project “Chandu Champion,” it is increasingly clear that the film is centered on the incredible life of Murlikant Petkar. Even more surprising is the choice of the lead actor – Kartik Aaryan.
Kartik Aaryan, a popular Bollywood actor, has not always been associated with intense, no-nonsense acting, though he has shown promise in films like “Dhamaka,” “Freddy,” and the more recent “Satyaprem ki Katha.” Now, Kartik has embarked on a challenging role, one that demands depth and authenticity. He will be supported by seasoned actors like Vijay Raaz and Bhuvan Arora, which adds to the anticipation surrounding the film.
If Kartik Aaryan successfully portrays the character of Murlikant Petkar and captures the essence of his remarkable journey, he is poised to establish himself as a versatile actor in a league of his own. The film “Chandu Champion” not only promises to pay homage to a hero but also offers Kartik a golden opportunity to prove his mettle as an actor, bridging the gap between popular and powerful performances.

As we eagerly await the release of “Chandu Champion,” the transformation of Kartik Aaryan from a charming heartthrob to a serious actor may just be one of the most exciting and anticipated aspects of the film. With Kabir Khan at the helm and a compelling story of resilience and triumph, this project is bound to resonate with audiences and leave a lasting impact in the world of Indian cinema.
