Visakhapatnam Matsya Narayan Mandir – Guide

Sri Matsya Lingeshwara Swami Temple also known as Matsya Narayan Mandir is located in the Matsyagundam area of Visakhapatnam. Lord Shiva is worshiped in this temple. Matsyagundam is a rocky outcropping near the Sileru River. It is a famous place situated at a distance of 13 kms from Paderu and 47 kms from Araku. The villagers of Polipalle, Thulabharangi and Marka surround him with concern. Sri Matsya Lingeshwara Swami Temple is in the Matsyagundam neighbourhood. In Matham village, Matsyagundam is known for its centuries-old Sri Matsya Lingeshwara Swami Temple.

History of this Temple

According to History there was a fight between the Shek and the Fishes. The mother fish had brought all the fishes from a place called “Jemili” for protection from snakes and the fishes have lived here since then, giving it the name Matsyagundam. It is believed that Lord Matsya Lingeshwara Swami takes care of these fishes. The villagers don’t eat fish, and they don’t go fishing.
