TOP 9 Red Flags in Overseas Job Offers Promising Free Visas and Flights
Share on FacebookShare on X

“Free visa”, “air ticket included” and “no relocation cost” can make an overseas offer look attractive, but those phrases do not prove that the job is genuine. Some employers really do cover travel, immigration or housing costs. The useful question is whether the promise matches a real employer, a written contract and a legal work route.

For candidates in India, that check should happen before money is sent, original documents are handed over or travel is booked.

A generous relocation package can be legitimate, but it should still be described in ordinary, checkable terms. If a recruiter keeps repeating the benefit while avoiding basic questions about the employer, contract or permit, the promise itself becomes less useful. Candidates should be able to separate what the company has actually committed to from what was only said in a chat.

The First Test Is Where the Money Goes

Red Flag 1: A Large Payment Comes Before Basic Verification

A request for a large payment before a proper offer, employer contact or vacancy check is a warning sign. It may be described as a visa fee, booking amount, processing charge or deposit, but the label itself proves nothing.

First confirm the employer, the job and the reason for the charge. Indian workers using an intermediary can also check whether the Recruiting Agent is registered through the eMigrate system.

Red Flag 2: The Payment Destination Makes No Sense

Extra caution is needed when money is sent to a private account, digital wallet, currency address or another beneficiary that has no clear link to the employer or recruitment process.

The key issue is traceability. Candidates should know who receives the money, why that person or company is entitled to it and whether an invoice or receipt will be issued.

Red Flag 3: Urgency Replaces Evidence

“Pay today or lose the visa slot” is not a reason to skip verification. Real deadlines can exist, but they should be explained.

Pressure becomes suspicious when it leaves no time to read the contract, contact the employer or check the legal route. A short deadline does not prove that a visa application is actually under way.

The Employer Should Exist Beyond Messages

Red Flag 4: There Is No Verifiable Legal Employer

A logo, PDF offer or WhatsApp profile is not enough. Candidates should be able to identify the company that will sign the contract and pay the salary.

Check the company name, location and official contact details. The Ministry of External Affairs advises people who receive overseas offers to confirm them directly with the foreign employer where possible.

Red Flag 5: The Recruiter’s Role Is Vague

A recruitment agency may handle interviews without becoming the legal employer. That is normal, but the relationship should still make sense.

Candidates should know who is hiring, who will sign the contract and who will pay them. If the recruiter blocks all employer verification or gives different answers about who is responsible for the job, more checking is needed.

The same principle applies to documents. A genuine recruitment process normally leaves a trail: offer details, a contract, employer contacts and some form of application or procedural communication. These pieces do not have to look identical, but they should not describe completely different jobs.

A “Free Visa” Still Needs a Legal Work Route

Red Flag 6: Approval Is Presented as Guaranteed

Claims such as “100% visa approval” or “guaranteed work permit” deserve caution. An employer may support an application, provide documents or cover fees, but the final decision belongs to the relevant authority.

When browsing free visa and air ticket jobs in Europe 2026 on Layboard.in, candidates should treat “free” as a contract term to confirm, not as a standard condition of work in Poland or elsewhere in Europe.

A genuine employer should be able to explain what support it provides and what part of the process still belongs to the candidate.

Red Flag 7: A Tourist Visa Is Treated as the Normal Work Route

A recruiter may say that the worker can arrive as a tourist, start the job and fix the status later. That should be checked against the official rules of the destination before travel.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs specifically warns about complaints in which agents promise a job visa but later tell workers to travel first on a tourist visa and convert it afterwards.

A verbal promise to “sort everything out after arrival” is not a substitute for a lawful employment route.

The Paper Trail Should Stay Consistent

Red Flag 8: The Job Changes Before the Contract Is Signed

Compare the vacancy, recruiter messages, offer and final contract. The employer, role, location, salary basis and contract duration should still describe the same job.

A warehouse role should not suddenly become unrelated construction work. A different employer, lower pay or new destination may have an explanation, but the change should be clear before the candidate agrees to travel.

If anything important changes, ask for the updated term in writing before paying or travelling. A clear explanation is safer than an assumption.

Red Flag 9: “Free” Travel or Housing Has No Conditions

Flights and accommodation can genuinely be provided, but the details matter. Candidates should know whether a ticket is bought directly or reimbursed later, whether repayment depends on staying for a certain period and whether any amount can later be deducted from wages.

Housing needs the same clarity. Check the cost, utilities, occupancy and what happens if the job ends. “Free accommodation” means very little if charges appear later on the payslip.

Candidates should also keep copies of payment records, contracts and important messages. If a dispute appears later, it is much easier to explain what happened when the original terms and receipts are still available. Screenshots are useful, but formal documents and traceable payments carry more weight than verbal assurances.

A Quick Check Before Money or Travel

Before committing, compare the main parts of the offer:

  • Employer: can the legal company and vacancy be verified?
  • Recruiter: if an Indian Recruiting Agent is involved, is the registration valid?
  • Contract: do the employer, role, pay and location match the offer?
  • Work route: is there a lawful employment-authorisation process?
  • Payments and benefits: can every requested charge and promised benefit be explained in writing?

One warning sign does not automatically prove fraud. It does mean that the candidate should pause and collect more evidence.

A reliable overseas offer is not the one with the biggest promises. It is the one where the employer, recruiter, contract, legal work route and financial terms all fit together. “Free” visa, airfare or accommodation should be checked as written conditions, not treated as proof that the vacancy is trustworthy.
