Happy birthday Sanjay Mishra

Happy birthday Sanjay Mishra: For the past few years, Bollywood has been on the receiving end for not living up to the expectations of the audiences. The industry is finding it hard to understand the basic difference between a Star and an actor. Its desperate measures to cast nepo-kids in the template of Stars has badly backfired on the entertainment industry. Contrary to the ‘stars’, actors have to deliver in each and every opportunity they get. Yet, they didn’t get the due credit they deserved. However, things are changing for the better. Versatile actors like Sanjay Mishra are pulling content-rich cinema on their shoulders and demonstrating the art and trait of acting.

Early life and beginning of the acting career

Sanjay Mishra was born on 6th of October, 1963 (happy birthday Sanjay Mishra) in a middle-class Brahmin family. His childhood days were spent in the streets of Darbhanga, Bihar. His father Shambhu Nath Mishra an employee at the Press Information Bureau (PIB). Both his grandparents were civil servants. He completed his studies from Kendriya Vidyalaya BHU when his father got transferred from Bihar to Varanasi. Later, he joined the prestigious National School of Drama (NSD) and graduated in 1989.

In 1995, he made his acting debut with Hindi film ‘Oh Darling! Yeh Hai India!’. Later, in 1998, he acted in the highly acclaimed film ‘Satya’. The crime thriller movie played an instrumental role in establishing the careers of actors who played crucial roles in the film.

In 1999, Sanjay Mishra appeared on every television screen. He played the role of Apple Singh. Apple Singh was the “icon” used by ESPN Star Sports during the 1999 Cricket World Cup.

Sanjay Mishra: The Institution of acting

His brilliant roles in the movies like Satya and Dil Se, helped him to secure a part in the acclaimed Hindi TV sitcom Office. In the satirical show, he played the role of Shukla, a corrupt Paan-loving employee. The sitcom was a huge success and for the next few years, Sanjay Mishra had a dream run in TV serials before deciding to move ahead. After his successful roles in films like ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ and ‘Apna Sapna Money Money’, he left the television serials in 2005 to do roles exclusively in films.

In 2006, he gained fame for his back-to-back hit roles in Golmaal: Fun Unlimited and Dhamaal. Later, he built on the success of these comic characters and took it further in ‘All the Best: Fun Begins’ and ‘Phas Gaye Re Obama’. His dialogue “Dhondu, Just Chill” and comic timing in “All the Best’‘ gained him wide popularity. He soon became the central pillar in the Indian comedy and acting sphere.

During the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, he did a hit commercial called Mauka Mauka. The advertisement revolved around the cricket rivalry between India and Pakistan. It highlighted India’s winning streak against Pakistan.

Apart from Hindi film industry, he acted in Telugu, Bhojpuri, and Punjabi cinema. His only Bhojpuri release to date is Rang Li Chunariya Tere Naam.

In 2015, he won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor for his role as Bauji, the protagonist of the film, Ankhon Dekhi. Sanjay Mishra, an acting institution in himself, wore the hat of a director as well. His directorial debut, Pranaam Walekum was released in January 2016.

He has shown his versatile talent as an actor in comedy and serious roles alike but his comic roles became immortal in the hearts and minds of the Hindi audience. He gave brilliant performances in serious movies like Kadvi Hawa, Ankhon Dekhi, Kaamyaab and Masaan among others. But for the audiences his comic roles edged ahead of the serious roles. He is deeply entrenched with his civilisational roots and doesn’t get trapped in the lobbies of Bollywood. At a time, when portraying your Hindu roots can be a catastrophe for once career, Sanjay Mishra doesn’t restrict from following dharmic rituals.
