One of the most serious statements highlighted in the report is attributed to a teacher discussing how students could respond if police allegedly beat them anywhere in the country. The reported sentiment—“if they beat them, they will beat them too”—raises a fundamental question: when does political awareness cross the line into organised confrontation?
According to the Bhaskar report, the alleged strategy goes beyond teaching students for competitive examinations. The report presents claims that some students are being exposed to revolutionary political ideas with the objective of influencing their political outlook and preparing them for collective protest. The allegation is particularly significant because students arriving in Bihar’s coaching centres are often young people focused on government examinations and dependent on teachers for academic guidance. If educational influence is deliberately being converted into political mobilisation, that deserves serious independent investigation.
The Bhaskar report also refers to discussions surrounding Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin and revolutionary movements in Russia and China. There is nothing inherently objectionable about teaching these subjects. Marxism, communism and the history of revolutions are legitimate areas of political and historical study, and students should be free to examine them critically. The concern arises only if such teaching is allegedly accompanied by an attempt to convince students that revolution is the only solution to social or political problems, or if students are actively prepared to participate in confrontation with state institutions.
The Bhaskar report’s most disturbing allegation concerns the reported attitude towards police action. If students are actually being told that they should retaliate against police whenever police use force against them, the issue goes far beyond classroom ideology. Peaceful protest is a democratic right, but retaliation and violence cannot be justified merely by invoking political causes. Any such instruction, if supported by recordings, testimony or other evidence, would warrant examination by the relevant authorities. Equally, allegations should not be treated as proven merely because they appear in a report; they must be independently verified.
The Bhaskar investigation also draws attention to the extraordinary influence teachers can exercise in Bihar’s coaching ecosystem. In places such as Patna’s Musallahpur Haat, coaching is not simply a classroom experience. Students live together, study together, follow teachers online and often regard successful educators as mentors and role models. Recent reporting has already shown how powerful teacher-student networks can become in Patna, including during disputes and student protests. That influence creates a corresponding responsibility for educators to distinguish academic instruction from political mobilisation.
The Bhaskar report therefore raises a larger question about the coaching industry itself: are some institutions becoming political ecosystems in addition to examination centres? Students have every right to question governments, read revolutionary literature, criticise policies and participate in peaceful demonstrations. They also have the right to hear competing viewpoints before forming their opinions. A healthy classroom should teach students how to challenge an argument with another argument—not how to replace debate with confrontation.
The Bhaskar allegations should now be tested through evidence rather than political rhetoric. Classroom recordings, teaching material, student testimonies, organisational links and records of protest mobilisation could establish whether the claims reflect an isolated statement, a broader teaching philosophy or a deliberate system of political conditioning. Previous reporting has documented both the enormous influence of Bihar’s coaching teachers and the intense competition and student mobilisation surrounding the sector. The issue, therefore, deserves scrutiny without dragging caste into the debate or stereotyping students and teachers. The central question is straightforward: are coaching centres preparing young Indians for examinations—or, in some cases, preparing them for political confrontation?
