Then Hemesh Singh founded unacademy with Raman Saini, Gaurav Munjal in 2015. Gaurav Munjal established Unacademy as a YouTube educational programme in 2010, while still in college. Unacademy was officially launched in 2015 as a result of its popularity. Munjal’s first business venture was Flat.to, a real estate site he co-founded in 2013 with Hemesh. Commonfloor.com purchased the company.

Unacademy plans to use the ‘freemium business model’ to create the world’s largest learning repository. Learners can browse courses for free, but live sessions and personalized instruction require a subscription. Unacademy has amassed over 50,000 registered educators and over 49 million learners in a short period of time.

The company joined the unicorn club in 2020 and is presently valued at $3.4 billion, according to Venture Intelligence (Rs 25,770 crore). Hemesh is now serving as the Chief Technology Officer at Unacademy.
