The Current establishment of Indian National Congress and its supremely talented Vice President never miss a chance to amaze the country. Rahul Gandhi visited Norway last month and met various dignitaries and Entrepreneurs there, paid visit to the largest facility for combating climate change and is expected to visit University of U.C Berkeley to express his precious opinions on ‘India at 70: Path Forward’ this month.
And then Rahul Gandhi is all set to go on a ‘study tour’ of the world to take on Modi in upcoming general elections. Yeah this is what the Congress Party claims. This Study Tour will help him in preparing for the 2019 Showdown. This can be perceived as yet another desperate effort by the Congress to stack him up with against Modi, whose charisma, stature and political acumen dwarf Rahul Gandhi. This planned tour is discerned by many as a coverup or an annotation for his alleged foreign escapades. Rahul is known to leave his party dejected and leaderless before and after elections.
But AICC General Secretary, C.P Joshi asserted that the tour will bring exposure to new technology and will enable him to influence policy decisions in times where many politicians are obsessed with History. Irony is that such excuses have also been made by the Scam Ridden Grand Old party in the past whenever the Gandhi scion was out of India. This move has invited the criticism of many senior journalists including Annie Gowen and Harini Calamur. Rahul Gandhi was even trolled for the alleged trip plan. The very tour plan explains lack of vision and understanding of ground reality by the party’s decision makers, no wonder why it is facing existential crisis.
At a stage when the party is being uprooted from the country, Rahul Gandhi is expected to engage with every local congressman to strengthen the party from inside as many leaders are seen biding adieu to the party. Congress is losing election after election ever since its historic defeat in 2014. In such times, standing by the party workers is not just a good gesture but is a precondition. A tour across India understanding the issues of the common people and the reasons for their ire against his party is the need of the hour. But unlike his Grandmother and Great-grandfather, Rahul seems to be more inclined to the elite class. This elitism prevailing in the party is one the salient reasons for its eviction from the common class.
People now just don’t find their representatives in the sons of rich dads. In such averse situation, this foreign tour or so-called ‘study tour’ is uncalled for and ludicrous. Had it been Indira Gandhi or Nehru, they would have focused on strengthening the party from inside and its position in Indian Politics.
But Rahul Gandhi has the record of leaving his party high and dry. After the humiliating defeat at the hands of PM Modi led BJP in 2014, Rahul Gandhi went to a foreign Tour, or an ‘introspection holiday’ as called by Congress. Same thing happened after UP election.
Also, Rahul needs an excursion across India given his knowledge about the country and his mastery over real issues which are visible from time to time in his speeches during the campaigns. The chap doesn’t know if potatoes are grown or manufactured, his idea of Geography was clear when he declared Gujarat bigger than USA, his knowledge about Indian people keeps getting highlighted whenever he takes up sensitive topics. Rahul Gandhi has succeeded in creating an image of a person with complete lack of political heft. Also, his decisions and positions on issues of national concern like JNU, Demonetisation, Surgical Strikes have worsened his case further.
Congress party should stop promoting him as some ‘intellectual’ well familiar with international issues because Rahul Gandhi will keep inviting failure and trolling unless he fixes his basics up.
