The Uttar Pradesh Police carried out another high-pressure anti-crime operation in Muzaffarnagar after a Muslim man abducted a minor girl for marriage and religious conversion. He was shot in the leg during a police encounter while attempting to escape arrest. The operation ended with the safe recovery of the girl and the arrest of the accused, whose attitude reportedly changed completely after the encounter.
The accused, identified as Monu alias Shahrukh, son of Faiyaz, hid his real identity before coming into contact with the victim’s family. According to police officials, the case surfaced when the girl’s uncle reached the New Mandi police station around 6:30 pm and informed officers that his minor niece had gone missing. He told police that Shahrukh had manipulated the girl and taken her away with the intention of marrying her after religious conversion.
Police immediately treated the matter as a serious offence because the victim was a minor. Officers registered a case under abduction and other serious charges and launched an extensive search operation. Multiple police teams began tracking both the girl and the accused. Surveillance networks, local intelligence inputs, and continuous raids across the area helped police narrow down his movements.
Police Cornered the Accused Near Sahawali Village
Police officials said they received information that Shahrukh was hiding near a road close to Sahawali village in the New Mandi police station area and was preparing to flee. Acting on the tip-off, police teams surrounded the location late at night and moved in to arrest him.
As officers attempted to capture him, the accused panicked and tried to escape the police cordon. According to police, he pulled out a country-made pistol and opened fire at the police team. Officers immediately took defensive positions and launched retaliatory action in self-defence. During the exchange of fire, one bullet struck him in the leg, causing him to collapse on the spot. Police then overpowered and arrested him.
Soon after the encounter, his aggressive posture disappeared completely. Officials present during the operation said he folded his hands before the police personnel and repeatedly pleaded for mercy. According to police officers at the scene, he kept saying, “Sir, I will die, but I will never do such a thing again.”
Police recovered a .315 bore country-made pistol, live cartridges, an empty shell, and cash from his possession. Officers later shifted him to the district hospital, where he remains under treatment.
Minor Girl Recovered Safely Within Two Hours
The Uttar Pradesh Police recovered the minor girl safely within two hours of receiving the complaint. During questioning, the girl reportedly informed police that Monu, alias Shahrukh, had pressured her for marriage linked to religious conversion and had emotionally manipulated her before taking her away.
Circle Officer Raju Kumar Saw confirmed the details of the operation and said police acted immediately after receiving the complaint. He stated that officers prioritised the recovery of the girl and successfully traced both the victim and the accused within hours.
The incident has triggered strong reactions across the region, with many residents praising the speed and seriousness shown by the Uttar Pradesh Police. The operation has once again strengthened the perception that the state administration is pursuing an uncompromising stand against crimes involving women, minors, and forced conversion.
For supporters of Uttar Pradesh’s law-and-order model, the Muzaffarnagar encounter reflects a larger shift in policing where criminals no longer operate fearlessly or hide comfortably behind fake identities.
The message from Muzaffarnagar was direct and unmistakable: Those who target minor girls, conceal their identities, and attempt to outrun the law will eventually face the full force of the Uttar Pradesh Police.
