The Delhi Police Special Cell has registered an FIR against Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the chief of the banned outfit Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), for threatening to create unrest in the national capital ahead of Republic Day on January 26.
According to officials, the police booked Pannun under Sections 196, 197, 152, and 61 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). These sections deal with criminal intimidation, threats to national unity, and acts that endanger the sovereignty and integrity of India.
The action followed a series of provocative messages and videos released by Pannun. In these statements, he openly called for disruption during Republic Day celebrations and attempted to incite fear among the public. He also targeted India’s democratic institutions and security forces through his threats.
As a result, the Special Cell took swift steps to register the case and initiate legal proceedings. Senior police officers said the threats posed a serious risk to public order and national security, especially during a high-security national event like Republic Day.

Meanwhile, security agencies have stepped up surveillance and coordination across Delhi. They have increased checks at key locations and strengthened intelligence inputs to prevent any untoward incident. Officials stressed that the police will not allow any individual or group to disturb peace in the capital.
Furthermore, investigators are examining digital evidence linked to Pannun’s statements. They are also tracking his international links and funding networks associated with SFJ. Authorities believe such threats aim to spread panic and gain publicity rather than reflect real public support.
In addition, the police reiterated that SFJ remains a banned organisation under Indian law. Any support or association with its activities invites strict legal action.
Overall, the Delhi Police have assured citizens that they have taken all necessary measures to ensure peaceful Republic Day celebrations. They urged people to remain calm and alert, while emphasizing that the law will deal firmly with those who threaten India’s unity and security.
