Nitin Nabin has been elected unopposed as the 12th national president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday, making him the youngest leader in the party’s history to hold the post.
He is currently the national working president of the saffron party and will succeed JP Nadda, who is also Union Health Minister.
Within the organisation, this development is being hailed as a major generational shift and a move strategically aligned with the party’s long-term vision.
Nitin Nabin’s nomination was formally filed on Tuesday, at BJP’s central headquarters, in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, current National President JP Nadda, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and several other senior leaders.
As per party tradition, Nitin Nabin himself was not present at the office during the filing. Senior leaders submitted letters of support to the election officer on his behalf. Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states and other senior organisational leaders were also in attendance, signalling a broad consensus across all levels of the party.
Nitin Nabin was appointed BJP’s Working President on 14 December 2025. His rapid elevation to National President within just a month reflects the leadership’s strong confidence in him and underscores the party’s meticulous organisational planning.
The focus now is on ensuring that even booth-level workers feel connected to this leadership transition and share the same sense of trust.
Celebrations for Nitin Nabin’s Elevation to Be Held at Booth Level
The BJP has already begun extensive preparations for Nitin Nabin’s elevation as National President. Sources confirm that the party plans to extend the celebrations beyond national and state headquarters, reaching all the way down to the booth level.
The objective is clear, which is to ensure that even the last worker on the ground recognises, knows, and emotionally connects with the new National President and the top leadership.
Key Meeting of BJP Organisation General Secretary with State Presidents
Sources reveal that BJP Organisation General Secretary B. L. Santhosh held an important online meeting last week to outline the strategy. All BJP state presidents and organisational ministers participated in the discussion.
Clear instructions were issued that programmes welcoming and elevating the new National President must be organised at the booth level without exception. State presidents and organisational ministers will directly supervise these programmes to ensure their smooth execution.
Preparing the Organisation Ahead of Challenges in West Bengal and Assam
Nitin Nabin’s appointment as BJP’s youngest National President is not being seen merely as a formal change, but as a strategic organisational move. Party sources note that the leadership aims for him to enjoy the same level of acceptance and trust among workers and within the organisation that previous BJP presidents have commanded.
Booth-level programmes are intended to serve as a bridge between top leadership and grassroots workers, strengthening communication, boosting engagement, and closing organisational gaps.

From the moment the formal announcement of Nitin Nabin’s elevation on 20 January, welcome and outreach programmes will roll out across all states. This strategy is particularly significant as the BJP gears up for elections in four states this year, including West Bengal, Assam, and Tamil Nadu. Assembly elections in major states such as Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Gujarat are also scheduled next year.
West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh, in particular, are expected to be key tests for Nitin Nabin and his leadership team.
