A 24-year-old law student from South Calcutta Law College, Kolkata has given a harrowing account to police, alleging that she was gang-raped on campus by a former student and two current ones. Her statement reveals how the accused used her medical vulnerability against her before carrying out the assault.
The survivor said that just before the attack, she suffered a severe panic episode and began gasping for breath. In response, the main accused- Monojit Mishra, an alumnus allegedly told one of the others to fetch her inhaler. Once she regained control of her breathing, the accused reportedly dragged her to the guard room on campus, where the sexual assault began.
According to her complaint, Mishra had previously expressed romantic and sexual interest in her, even proposing marriage. After she rejected his advances, she alleges, he turned violent.
What followed was not just physical brutality but deep psychological trauma. As she tried to resist, one of the accused reportedly threatened her with the release of an earlier video that allegedly captured a prior attempt to assault her. Fearing public humiliation and social media exposure, she says she was left with no choice but to submit.
The survivor’s testimony points to a calculated, premeditated attack that exploited her physical condition, emotional state, and the power of digital blackmail. The use of her inhaler intended to aid her in a medical emergency became a brief interlude before the violence continued.
All three accused are now in police custody. The investigation is ongoing, with a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the incident. The college premises have been sealed for forensic examination.
As the story unfolds, it has sparked widespread outrage across Kolkata and beyond, with demands for swift justice, better campus safety, and accountability from both educational institutions and political circles, given the alleged affiliations of the accused.
Medical Examination Confirms Sexual Assault
The survivor underwent a medical evaluation at a government hospital, which confirmed signs of violent sexual assault. Injuries included bite marks and abrasions, consistent with her testimony.
Based on these findings, police have charged the accused under India’s gang-rape laws, which carry a minimum 20-year prison sentence and could lead to life imprisonment.
