In a brief message aimed at tightening the grip on law-and-order situation in Haryana, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting with senior police officials and directed them to adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards crime and criminals. The meeting, held in Chandigarh, lasted over four and a half hours and witnessed detailed deliberations on the current security scenario across the state.
State-Wide Review of Law and Order
The meeting was attended by Commissioners of Police (CPs), Superintendents of Police (SPs), and other senior law enforcement officers. During the session, CM Saini conducted a comprehensive district-wise review of law and order and expressed deep concern over rising criminal activities in some regions.
Addressing the officers, he said, ‘There will be no compromise on law and order. Criminals must be dealt with firmly, and the message should be clear; Haryana has zero tolerance for crime.’
Tough Action to Serve as a Deterrent
The Chief Minister emphasized that preventive policing and immediate action against offenders must be the norm. He instructed police officials to act swiftly and decisively against anyone involved in criminal activities. ‘Take such firm action that anyone planning a crime thinks a hundred times before acting,’ he stated.
He also issued a strict warning against any form of negligence within the police force. Officers found guilty of misconduct, including alcohol consumption during duty hours, will face strict disciplinary proceedings, he said.
Key Directives
CM Saini recommended police officers to step out of their offices and interact more with the general public. ‘You cannot expect results by sitting in your chambers. Be among the people, listen to their concerns, and ensure a sense of safety,’ he said.
He further instructed that surprise inspections of police stations and outposts should be conducted regularly to ensure discipline and accountability at the grassroots level.
Another key directive from the Chief Minister was for officers to maintain strict punctuality and remain accessible at their workplaces. ‘Being present in the office during working hours is essential. It allows the public to reach out easily and builds trust in the system,’ he said.
After the meeting, Haryana Home Secretary Sumit Mishra informed the media, stating that the Chief Minister is personally monitoring the law-and-order situation. ‘He is very serious about bringing real change on the ground. After today’s meeting, we expect a visible impact in terms of police performance and public confidence,’ Mishra said.
A Renewed Push for Discipline and Reform
The session concluded with CM Saini expressing faith in the Haryana Police, calling it a disciplined and capable force. He reiterated that law enforcement must function efficiently, transparently, and with a deep sense of responsibility towards the public.
‘I believe in the ability of our police force. With the right direction and commitment, we can ensure Haryana becomes a model of law and order,’ CM Saini concluded.
