Around a dozen tourists have suffered injuries in a terror attack at a resort in Pahalgam, located in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district, on Tuesday. According to officials, terrorists opened fire for 3 to 5 minutes before fleeing the scene. One of the victims is critically injured and has been shifted to the Anantnag district hospital. Authorities fear the number of casualties may rise as search operations continue.

Security forces, including the Indian Army’s Victor Force, Special Forces, JKP SoG, and the CRPF 116 Battalion, have launched a joint search operation in the Baisaran meadows area of the popular tourist town. The attack did not occur along the Pahalgam–Doda axis, officials confirmed.
A woman tourist recounted a chilling account of the incident, claiming the attackers asked for her name and religion before opening fire.
“The terrorists first asked my name and religion, then shot me,” she said, visibly shaken. She also disclosed that her husband had been shot on the head and at least seven others were injured.
While this, a previously discovered terrorist hideout in Kishtwar district, reveals the depth of planning that goes into such attacks. On April 14, security personnel busted a highly sophisticated terror hideout in the Chhatru forest region, suspected to be run by militants of the Pakistan-based outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). The hideout contained solar panels, GPS, Wi-Fi, and an underground tunnel—signs of long-term planning and avoidance tactics.
While rescue efforts continue and the area is under tight security, authorities are urging caution and asking civilians to report anything out of the ordinary. The attack has again brought to light the constant threat of terrorism in the area, now targeting even tourists.
