Shah Rukh Khan has put an end to speculation over a possible delay to his much-awaited action thriller ‘King’, confirming that the film will release in theatres on December 24, 2026.
Khan made the confirmation during an AskSRK session on X on Tuesday, responding to a fan who asked whether the film’s release date would be changed amid a crowded Christmas box-office window.
In his trademark style, Khan replied that the date would remain unchanged, joking that while other films may be the “bread pieces”, “we are the tasty tikki in the centre.”
The confirmation comes after weeks of speculation that King could move from its December release because of competition from major Hollywood titles, including ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Dune: Part Three’, which are scheduled around the same period.
‘King’ is 100 days away
Khan also addressed questions about when fans can expect the film’s trailer and promotional material.
When a fan urged him to release the trailer, the actor replied that the trailer would come later, pointing out that the film was still around 100 days away from release. He added that the team was taking time to ensure they put their best work forward.
“Abhi sirf baat karunga, Trailer baad mein… film is 100 days away na… 24th Dec bro,” Khan said in response to the request.
He also indicated that director Siddharth Anand and the team were working extensively on the film’s promotional and creative material.
Shah Rukh Khan talks about the action
The actor also teased what audiences can expect from King, saying its action sequences would be “very big” and crediting Anand for his work on them.
However, Khan stressed that the film would not be driven by action alone. He said he hoped the emotional and comedic elements would appeal to audiences as well.
The film marks Khan’s next major theatrical outing following his 2023 releases ‘Pathaan’, ‘Jawan’ and ‘Dunki’, and is being positioned as a large-scale action entertainer.
Who stars in ‘King’?
Directed by Siddharth Anand, King features Shah Rukh Khan in the lead alongside Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Jaideep Ahlawat, Abhay Verma and Arshad Warsi, among others.
The film is being produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures.
With the release date now reaffirmed, King is headed for a major Christmas box-office showdown. Its December 24 release places it directly in competition with some of the year’s biggest international and Indian releases.
For Shah Rukh Khan fans, however, the immediate takeaway from Tuesday’s interaction was simpler: the King is staying put. December 24 remains the date.
