Kanhaiya Kumar’s Mockery of Tahawwur Rana Extradition Exposes Congress’s Soft Spot on Terror

Congress leader and NSUI national-in-charge Kanhaiya Kumar has once again chosen to spew political venom and mockery rather than engage in serious debate over national issues. His recent outburst against Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on the extradition of 26/11 accused Tahawwur Rana is nothing but a desperate attempt to remain politically relevant and divert attention from his party’s failure on national security during its own regime. Instead of acknowledging the significance of bringing back a key conspirator of one of India’s deadliest terror attacks, Kanhaiya trivialized the achievement. Calling it a distraction, he chose to mock it by dragging in completely unrelated topics like the ₹15 lakh jibe which in turn in a bogus propaganda holding no mole of truth and personal attacks against Amit Shah and his family.

Addressing journalists in Patna, Kanhaiya Kumar called the extradition of Tahawwur Rana political ploy to distract citizens from real issues like unemployment, inflation, and the Waqf Amendment Act. “Oh, I thought you were talking about ₹15 lakh in bank accounts,” Kanhaiya said sarcastically, referencing a BJP campaign promise. “Does Amit Shah have any shame? He made his son BCCI Secretary and now ICC Chairman. And they talk about nepotism.”, Kanhaiya said.

It is appalling that a national leader would reduce a critical anti-terror operation, fought through 17 years of legal and diplomatic persistence, to a mere political gimmick. Kanhaiya’s comments not only diminish the gravity of the 26/11 attacks but also insult the memory of the 166 innocent lives lost in Mumbai. While he claims that Rana is a “small player” and the U.S. did not extradite David Headley, he conveniently forgets that it was his own Congress government that fumbled the response in 2008, failed to strike back, and let the trail of justice go cold. If not for the NDA’s sustained push through the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Ministry of External Affairs, and high-level diplomacy, Rana would still be walking free in the U.S.

The former JNU student leader also continued his signature deflection strategy: turning a question about terrorism into a rant about unemployment, healthcare, and nepotism. Ironically, he spoke of nepotism while standing for a party headed by a family that has ruled the Congress like a private fiefdom for decades.  Kanhaiya Kumar’s brand of politics is built on nothing but noise, mockery, and misdirection.
