In a concerted drive against illegal immigration, the Delhi Police have detained 15 foreign nationals for overstaying in India without proper visas. The foreign nationals were arrested during coordinated raids held in the Mohan Garden and Uttam Nagar areas of the national capital. The group included 12 Nigerians, two Bangladeshis, and one individual from the Ivory Coast.
According to officials, the individuals were found residing in India without proper visa documentation and were immediately transferred to detention centers. Following verification, the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) ordered their deportation.
The arrests were part of a continuous drive to detect and act against foreign nationals staying illegally in the nation, especially in highly populated urban areas.
6 More Bangladeshis Detained, Two Impersonating Transgenders
On Saturday, the Delhi Police arrested six Bangladeshi nationals, among whom two men had impersonated themselves as transgenders in order to escape detection. The arrested individuals were identified as Mahi (22), Tanya (19), Aklima Bibi (35), Ambrose, Md Kamal (51), and Mahbub Alam (50).
Inquiries uncovered that Mahbub Alam had initially come to India on a visa for an engagement at the Portuguese Embassy but overstayed in India after his visa had expired on April 8.
Two people who were picked up at Mahipalpur, southwest Delhi, Mahi and Tanya confessed that they had illegally entered India on weak border areas with the help of agents. They had also disclosed during questioning that they had received hormone therapy and minor gender-affirming procedures to support their transgender identities so that they could use it as a means to elude immigration searches.
On questioning, the couple also identified two other Bangladeshi transgenders, Pinky and Irara, as principal coordinators who guided them to obtaining forged documents and adapting to life in Delhi.
Delhi Police continues to probe the wider network involved in these illegal immigration and forged identification activities.
