The racism against Indians/Hindus over the years has taken a concerning jump in the United States. Be it online or offline, instances of racism against Indians have become common. White Supremacists contribute to the racism against Indians the most by virtue of their conspiracy theories of Indians trying to replace Americans in America.
Recently the appointment of Indian-American entrepreneur and venture capitalist Sriram Krishnan as the senior White House policy adviser on artificial intelligence (AI) has brought a wave of Anti-India hatred. White Supremacists with no lessons of inclusivity jumped to condemn the decision of Donald Trump of picking an Indo-American for such an important post. While some questioned the loyalty of Sriram Krishnan towards America and alleged him to be more leaning to India, others came up with the conspiracy theory of Indians trying to replace whites in jobs in America.
A White Supremacist handle with username @Aethelleas, accused Sriram Krishnan of advocating for mass immigration from India in order to replace the Americans. The user also pointed his fingers at Elon Musk for protecting the Mass Migration Lobby.
He wrote “You’re not allowed to talk about how a new Trump appointee is openly advocating for Mass Immigration from India to Replace Americans. Every one of the tweets on this topic has been marked “hate”. I’ve tweeted exactly this message for years, and even @Vijaya didn’t flag me. Elon Musk is protecting the Mass Migration Lobby, and shutting down its Americans First Opponents.”
Another user (@nasescobar316) questioned the loyalty of Sriram Krishnan and claimed that the loyalty of Sriram first lies with India with the same replacement conspiracy theory .“No matter what Sriram Krishnan says, he is INDIA First. No matter what the people around him say. Their only goal is to import more Indians to REPLACE American Workers” he posted.
Abuses were hurled at Sriram solely for being an Indo-American. A netizen with Username @TheChadReinhard used derogatory words for Sriram Krishnan and accused him of the same and questioned the authorities for appointing him to the high post. “Trump’s recent hire of Sriram Krishnan is a disgrace. Krishnan has openly said he wants to end H1B country caps and flood the U.S. with Indian H1B workers. Nothing America first about this scumbag. Elon Musk, Marc Andreessen and David Sacks pushed for him to be appointed.” he mentioned.
Another racist handle came with the same bogus claims. “Anyone who has worked in corporate America knows this is how it goes. You hire one Indian and then within five years the entire department is Indian. Within 10 years the CEO is Indian” wrote @NipseyHoussle
Appointment of Sriram Krishnan
On 22nd of December, Donald Trump announced that Krishnan would lead efforts to develop and coordinate AI policy across the government. His role includes collaborating with the President’s Council of Advisers on Science and Technology.
Sriram Krishnan will serve as Senior Policy Advisor for Artificial Intelligence at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Working closely with David Sacks, Sriram will focus on ensuring continued American leadership in A.I., and help shape and coordinate A.I. policy across Government, including working with the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. Sriram started his career at Microsoft as a founding member of Windows Azure.
Alarming rise of Hinduphobia/ Anti-India hate in the United States
The United States is seeing an alarming rise of Hinduphobia so much so that the former President and the upcoming President of US, Donald Trump too felt the need to highlight this. In recent months, Hindu temples in the United States have faced disturbing incidents of vandalism.
In January, California’s Vijay Sherawali Temple was defaced with pro-Khalistan slogans. In September, the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in Sacramento was similarly desecrated with anti-Hindu graffiti, following a similar attack on a BAPS temple in New York. Adding to these incidents, a protest against a newly unveiled Hanuman statue at the Ashtalakshmi Temple in Texas saw a Christian group disrupt temple peace by engaging temple visitors in baseless debates and shouting anti-hindu slogans like, “May all the false gods burn to the ground.”.
Also according to reports by the California Civil Rights Department, the Anti-Hindu hate crimes in California have become the second-most reported form of religious bias which indicates the concerning rise of Hinduphobia.
Additionally, Hindu-American leaders like Vivek Ramaswamy, JD Vance’s wife — Usha, earlier Kamala Harris, Tulsi Gabbard, Nicki Haley had endured vile racial attacks for their faith/Indian-origin ancestory.
