The Ghazipur border on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway on Wednesday morning suffered from a massive traffic jam as Congress workers gathered there ahead of their leader Rahul Gandhi’s plan to visit Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. The situation began to get out of hand when the public was left stranded on the highway due to the Congress programme, incensing the commuters. The public began raising slogans against the Congress leader as a scuffle also broke out between the Congress workers and the suffering commuters.
Members of the Congress youth wing raised slogans and waved the party flag as the police stopped Rahul Gandhi at the Ghazipur border citing prohibitory orders. The Uttar Pradesh Police had put up barricades and were checking the commuting vehicles to prevent any untoward incident. With the entry of the Congress workers the roads from Delhi to Uttar Pradesh remained heavily congested, making the commuters face a harrowing time reaching their destination.

Earlier in the day, a delegation of Congress leaders led by Rahul Gandhi was stopped at the border. Violence had erupted in Sambhal on November 24 after a court ordered survey of a contested mosque. The violence had led to four deaths and several injured, including policemen. There are prohibotory orders in place on the region.
Rahul Gandhi was accompanied by his sister Priyanka Gandhi and other congress leaders and had remained in the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border region for over two hours. The gathering crowds caused a huge traffic jam on the Delhi Meerut expressway.
