Bagalkot Badami Cave Temple -Guide
The Badami Cave Temple is located in the Bagalkot district in the Indian state of Karnataka and are dedicated to Lord Vishnu. There are four caves located here, out of which three are related to Hinduism and one is from Jainism. Badami is situated on the banks of Agatsya Lake, which is situated in an attractive valley of red stones. Badami Tourism Known as a epitome of Dravidian architecture, it was known in ancient times as the capital of the Chalukya dynasty.
History of this Temple
The history of the Bagalkot Badami Cave Temple dates back to the 6th to 8th centuries. The Badami caves were built by the rulers of the Pallava dynasty. The architecture of the Chalukyas is seen in the Badami cave structure which is very beautiful and reminds one of those during the 6th century. Many beautiful temples and caves have been built here by the Chalukya dynasty. Built out of sandstone hills, the Badami Cave Temples boast of rock-cut architecture. Badami has four cave temples, three of which belong to Hinduism and one to Jainism. One has to climb about 2000 steps to reach the caves.
Initially, Badami was the capital of the Chalukya dynasty. Another cave has been discovered here in the year 2015. The Banashankari Temple Festival is organized near Badami during the month of January-February. The Virupaksha Temple Car Festival at Pattadakal in the month of March is a sight to see.
