Georgia accepts Hinduphobia as a crime: Hinduism, a religion that is known for its tolerance and acceptance of different cultures and religions, has unfortunately become a soft target across the globe. The left-liberal cabal, which tends to be agnostic, has for far too long attempted to sweep the atrocities committed against Hindus under the rug.
It is the duty of our country to speak out against the discrimination faced by minority religions, especially those that are non-Abrahamic. And that is exactly what India did when it denounced the attack on a Sikh gurdwara in Kabul and called on the United Nations to condemn the hatred towards non-Abrahamic religions. It was a profound moment for our country.
And just recently, news from Georgia, US, has brought a ray of hope to those who have faced atrocities for being Hindu and have had no platform to express themselves.
Georgia accepts Hinduphobia as a crime
It’s encouraging to hear that Georgia has taken a stand against Hinduphobia and anti-Hindu bigotry by passing a county resolution. This resolution acknowledges the significant contributions made by Indian Americans and Hindu Americans in Georgia while also recognising the troubling increase in Hinduphobia across the country.
Hinduism, a religion known for its rich diversity of traditions and beliefs, has a following of more than 1.2 billion people across over 100 countries. It is one of the oldest religions in the world and emphasizes values such as acceptance, mutual respect, and peace.
Throughout its history, the United States has been a symbol of progress and offered opportunities to individuals from all over the world to improve their lives. Over four million Hindus now reside in the US, and they have made significant contributions to various fields, including science, technology, medicine, and education.
Despite the significant contributions that Hindus have made in the US and globally, they continue to experience discrimination and prejudice based on their faith. The increasing prevalence of Hinduphobia is a worrisome trend that requires attention. The passage of resolutions such as the one in Georgia sends a powerful message that discrimination against any religion will not be accepted.
It is essential for individuals and communities to strive towards creating a culture that values and respects all religions, including Hinduism. By acknowledging and celebrating the diversity and valuable contributions of various religious groups, we can foster a more inclusive and harmonious society for everyone.
Hindus have always been an asset
The Hindu community in America has a long and rich history that dates back to the late 19th century, when the first Hindus arrived in the United States as students and scholars. Today, Hindu Americans are one of the fastest-growing communities in the country, numbering over three million, according to the Pew Research Centre.
Hindus have made significant contributions to various sectors in America, including medicine, science, engineering, information technology, hospitality, and finance. Many Hindu Americans have achieved great success in their fields, including Nobel Prize-winning physicist Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, computer scientist Raj Reddy, and business magnate Indra Nooyi.
The contributions of Hindu Americans to American society go beyond their professional achievements. Hinduism has gifted the world with various practises and teachings that have been embraced by many Americans, such as yoga, ayurveda, meditation, food, music, and the arts. These practises have enriched American society and have been widely adopted, benefiting millions of people.
However, despite these contributions and the peaceful nature of Hinduism, there have been instances of hate crimes and discrimination against Hindu Americans.

Hate speech against Hindus gets an acknowledgement
In July 2022, Rutgers University released a report titled “Anti-Hindu Disinformation: A Case Study of Hinduphobia on Social Media,” which detailed how hate messages on social media translate into real-life threats for people of the Hindu faith. Some academics who support the dismantling of Hinduism and accuse its sacred texts and cultural practises of violence and oppression exacerbate and institutionalise Hinduphobia.
The resolution passed by the Georgia legislature condemns Hinduphobia, anti-Hindu bigotry, and intolerance. It declares Forsyth County as a place that welcomes diversity, including Hindu Americans and anyone who works within the laws, upholds family values, and contributes to economic and social well-being. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorised and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the press.
This is indeed a very important step. It shows that, till today, Hindus’ voices have been suppressed. And those who destroyed the world from across the continents are enjoying the highest privileges in the world because of so-called secularism.
