Buddha Temple Dehradun – Overview
One of the famous tourist attractions in Dehradun is the Buddha Temple. Buddha Temple is the most visited place in Dehradun. This temple is located in Clement Town, Dehradun. This temple is a Buddhist math of the Nyingma school of Buddhism.
It is a holy place of prayer for Tibetan monks. The temple is surrounded by prayer wheels, which is also known as mani chakras in the Tibetan language. Buddha Temple is also called Mindroling Monastery, the largest rolling monastery in Asia.
History of the Temple
The construction of the Buddha Temple, began in the year 1965, and took about 3 years to complete it. This famous Buddha temple was built by a Buddhist monk Cohen Rinpoche along with other monks.
This temple was built with the aim of preserving and promoting Tibetan culture in India. The architecture of this famous Buddhist monastery in Dehradun is basically inspired by Japanese architecture. The main stupa of the temple is 220 feet high. One of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world is situated here. This Buddhist stupa was built on 28 October 2002.

During winters the Buddha Temple Dehradun opens at 9:00 am and closes at 6:00 pm. In summers, the temple opens at 8:00 am and closes at 7:00 pm.

Things to see in Buddha Temple Dehradun
Stupa – There are many stupas here which are made in Tibetan design. Artwork of these stupa is done in such a way which fascinates you when you see it closely. It looks Very attractive and very nice.
Temple – There are many small and big temples in the Buddha Temple, which are all built in Tibetan style and look very grand and attractive. All the temples are made in hut shape which attracts the people most.
Gardens – There are many flower-filled gardens that adorn the Buddha Temple complex. The garden filled with green dub grass and many types of flowers planted which look very beautiful.
Nearest tourist Attraction
Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple, Sahastradhara, Robbers Cave, Malsi Deer Park are some of the popular places to visit in and around Dehradun which attracts the tourist in large number. The beautiful hill station of Mussoorie is situated just at a distance of just 30 kms from Dehradun.

How to reach Buddha Temple in Dehradun
By Road – If you travel by road, then you get many types of means of transport from Delhi to Dehradun, out of which it is best to travel by bus. You can take a bus from Delhi to Dehradun which will drop you at ISBT Dehradun from where you will have to take a taxi to reach Buddha Temple which is just at a distance of 5 kms.
By Train – To travel by train, you will have to go from Delhi to Dehradun. The distance of Buddha Temple from Dehradun Railway Station is about 12 kms. From the railway station also Buddha Temple can be reached by taxi.
By Air- To travel by air, you will have to reach Jolly Grant Airport Dehradun from Delhi from where Buddha Temple can be easily reached by road. The distance from Jolly Grant Airport to Buddha Temple is about 34 kilometres which takes 1 hour to reach there.
