Commonwealth Games brings out the sheer apathy of Aam Aadmi Party in full spotlight

If there is one party that has seen a meteoric rise, it has to be the Aam Aadmi Party. The party was born on foundations of anti-corruption, good governance and changing the way politics is done in India. Apparently, it has been successful in doing so, at least in the extravagant advertisements. Despite being a hollow one, the Delhi model of governance became popular at the expense of taxpayers’ money. However, this mystical bubble of Arvind Kejriwal has been busted time and again. The same was witnessed when a Commonwealth medalist thoroughly exposed the Delhi government for its sheer apathy and false promises.

Tables turned on Arvind Kejriwal

Indian athletes are doing phenomenal in the ongoing Commonwealth Games (CWG), 2022. India’s young wrestler, Divya Kakran brought laurels to the nation. She won the bronze medal in the women’s 68-kg category. After her remarkable success, netizens started flooding the internet with congratulatory messages and tweets. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal too jumped into the fray.

He might have thought that nobody would notice his government’s dismal attitude towards sportspersons. However, he forgot that social media is a great leveller as it spares none for their hypocrisy and incompetence. His congratulatory tweet became a cause of shame for his government and party.

Put one’s money where one’s mouth is

The champion wrestler Divya Kakran replied back thanking CM Kejriwal for his congratulatory tweet. However, through her tweet, Divya Kakran took the Delhi government to the cleaners. She exposed the sheer apathy of the Kejriwal government towards sportspersons and its discriminatory practices on several ground. Tagging CM Kejriwal, she categorically highlighted the fact that she has not received any reward or help from the Kejriwal government.

Divya Kakran said, ‘I thank Delhi CM for congratulating me on my medal victory. I have a request that I have been living in Delhi for the last 20 years and have also been training in wrestling here, but I have not received any prize money from the state government, nor did I receive any help”.

— Divya Kakran Nayab Tehsildar (@DivyaWrestler) August 7, 2022

Further, she requested the AAP government to shun this discriminatory practice.

Divya Kakran added, “I request you that I should also be honoured in a similar way as Delhi wrestlers who are honoured despite (the fact that) they also play from other states”.

@aajtak @ZeeNews @ABPNews @AAPDelhi

It seemed as if her dhobi pachad sent a chill down the spine of the Kejriwal government. Evidently, Delhi government went on an overdrive to save itself from humiliation.

Troubleshooting

In a damage control mode, AAP issued a statement. It stated,” The Delhi government respects all sportspersons of the country and prays for their bright future. Currently Divya Kakran plays for Uttar Pradesh. If she had played from Delhi or she had been part of any sports scheme of the government or she has applied in any such scheme then the government will surely look into it”.

Its habit of giving excuses and passing the buck was evident from its statement. It used a shallow excuse that Kakran plays for UP, which was well smashed by Divya Kakran in her second tweet. Other athletes hailing from Delhi have been rewarded despite them playing for some other states.

Not once but twice!

This is not the first time that the wrestler had to plead for her due recognition and reward from the Delhi government. Early in 2018, Divya Kakran had requested the Delhi government to provide support. Coming from a very humble background, she urgently needed help to continue her sports journey. Unfortunately, those requests for help fell on deaf ears of the Kejriwal government.

However, in the urge to jump on the success wagon of Asian games medalist, Delhi CM organised a felicitation ceremony. Instead of praises which he would have anticipated, the Kejriwal government got humiliated for ignoring the requests of the athletes prior to the mega event and success. Wrestler Divya lambasted the Delhi government for leaving the athletes high and dry when they needed the government’s support the most.

WATCH: Bronze medalist Wrestler, Divya Kakran confronted Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal while she was attending a function in her honour, she complained about how no help was provided to her when she wanted support from the government #KejriwalKaKhel pic.twitter.com/MR8526R9PT

— TIMES NOW (@TimesNow) September 5, 2018

The Delhi CM Kejriwal should seek lessons from PM Modi and Orissa CM Naveen Patnaik. They both have been playing a crucial role in injecting fervour in Indian sports. They have stood behind the athletes in thick and thin. They have been encouraging the dejected athletes who couldn’t achieve the desired success instead of reaping the success of medalists and stealing their thunder.

There is a saying that you can fool all the people some of the time, some of the people all the time but you can never fool all the people all the time. He should start realising the fact that unlike in the past mere sweet talk and advertisement will not suffice. The government has to deliver on their promises otherwise they would have to eat the humble pie just like in the case of Divya Kakran. All the athletes representing India should get their due credit and not mere false promises from politicians.
