For more than a decade, India witnessed many horrific bomb blasts and coordinated terror attacks. The perpetrators either infiltrated in India or conspired terrorist attacks from deep inside the Pakistani soil. The intensity and magnitude of these terror attacks, at Pakistani behest, were at its peak between 2007-2011.
Ironically, a loudmouth Pakistani journalist exposed the modus operandi of the infamous Pakistani intelligence agency, ISI. His revelations have opened the dirty closet which is snowballing into a larger national security issue for India. Slowly, the list of accused laying red carpet for Pakistani moles/agents like Nushrat Mirza is expanding fast. All of this hints at a larger ramification for our country’s national security.
Statement of Denial or an act of throwing Congress under the bus?
After the revelations by the Pakistani ‘journalist’ Nushrat Mirza a larger national security debate started in India. Many political experts and former intelligence agency officers accused Hamid Ansari of betraying the nation while serving as the Vice-President of India and Ambassador to Iran and other countries. He was accused of inviting and laying the red carpet for the Pakistani spy Mirza. Some accused Former VP Hamid Ansari of exposing the network of our RAW agents in foreign soil.

Responding to these accusations of betraying the nation, former Vice-president Mohammad Hamid Ansari issued a statement. He denied all the accusations and termed them as falsehoods. He denied the accusation of inviting Pakistani ‘spy’ journalist for a conference on ‘Terrorism’. He added that neither he invited Mirza nor met him. To shrug off any responsibility of inviting any guest, he emphasised that invitations to foreign dignitaries are sent on the advice of the government of the day through the Ministry of External Affairs.

He led stress on the posts he occupied including India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nation. He stated that all his work and achievements were at all times within the knowledge of the contemporary governments. It is only the government of India which has all the information and hence is the only authority to tell the truth.
Who was at the helm of affairs back then?
With his statement, the former VP Hamid Ansari passed the buck to the then government of the day. Knowing the fact that if the allegations of inviting and giving special privileges to a Pakistani spy holds true, it can tantamount to serious charges of betraying the nation.
Congress party, on multiple occasions, has been accused of giving shields and moral support to anti-India elements. But this admission by the former VP, that it was Congress who invited the Pakistani spy, strengthens those accusations against Congress.

Additionally, Congress leaders have been accused of being Pakistani sympathisers. Manishankar Aiyar, once in a televised Pakistani debate, asked Pakistan’s help in overthrowing the Modi government. The government back then also kept the peace talks on and never retaliated to Pakistani sponsored terror attacks in India.
Moreover, it is an open secret that during that time, all the major decisions were taken by the apex body National Advisory Council (NAC) headed by Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
Why should we give any value to Nushrat Mirza’s statement?
In an interview to a youtuber, the Pakistani ‘Journalist’, Nusrat Mirza, accepted spying in India. Some of his claims are verifiable and have been found to be true. He indeed visited India at least five times between 2007-2010. It is important to note that because of his closeness with the then Pakistani Foreign Minister, Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri, he got special privileges in India. Usually a foreign visitor is allowed to visit utmost four cities whereas Pakistani agent Mirza got permission to visit seven Indian cities.
There are many pictorial proofs of his presence in the seminars hosted in India and the one hosted by former VP Hamid Ansari. It is also a known fact that Pakistan has been fuelling and supporting both morally and financially separatist groups in India. So, his acceptance of visiting Indian cities and gathering information about separatist movements in India can’t be washed away without proper investigation.
In his interview Mirza had said, “I know where separatist movements are happening. But no one wants to exploit the information. The separatist movements are happening in all regions of India. There is no doubt about that. I used to say there were 26 movements ongoing, but someone said now there are 67 such movements.”
All these things require a deep and thorough investigation irrespective of the post and position of the accused. The matter of national security is paramount and anyone responsible for such criminal acts of treason should be brought to Justice. However, it is the moral duty of the Congress to come out clean from all these accusations as it is the principal opposition party in the country. As, a country whose principal opposition indulges in such acts will be doomed.
