Male feminists – how many times have you heard the term and considered them to be a cut above the rest? The fact is that the acclaimed podcaster Joe Rogan had called them pathetic weasels, who strive on demeaning their own brethren. Wait, what? To be clear, we are referring to those who pretend to be feminists. One such ‘feminist’ is Sanal Kumar Sasidharan who was recently sent behind bars for allegedly stalking a woman.
Maker of ‘Sexy Durga’ handcuffed
Sanal Kumar Sasidharan, a Malyali filmmaker was recently accused by Manju Warrier, an actress, of harming her dignity. According to a Hindustan Times report, Sanal allegedly blackmailed her and maligned her reputation on social media. The complaint was registered at Elamakkara police station in Kochi.
Interestingly, before the complaint was registered, Sanal kept posting about the possible threats to Manju’s life as if he was concerned about her safety. In one of his Facebook posts, he wrote, “Very Serious: Actress’s life is in danger. It has been four days since I posted on social media that the life of famous Malayalam actress Manju Warrier is in danger and she is in the custody of some people with vested interests.”

Sanal alleges political vendetta
According to Sanal, he first sent a private message to Manju and when she did not respond, he was forced to post it on Facebook, so that someone would pass on the message to her. The infamous filmmaker believes that there is a political angle to the allegations levelled on him. According to a report by India TV, Sanal had written to the President and Chief Justice of India about the breaking social fabric in Kerala.
Indirectly insinuating about political malfeasance, he said, “I said that I wrote a letter to the President of India and the Chief Justice of India. The letter said that the social fabric of Kerala has suffered a significant breakdown and law and order is being disrupted. The case came up the day after the letter was written,”

Bail application accepted
Even when he was arrested, the maker of ‘Sexy Durga’ alleged that he was being forcibly taken by the police. According to him, Police did not call on his number and directly traced his location to arrest him. He was arrested by Elamakkara police station. Manju had lodged a complaint under Section 354D of Indian Penal Code. The given section punishes only men for stalking women.
Meanwhile, after a dramatic day, the filmmaker was released on bail. After coming out of the jail, he reiterated his stand that the actress’ life was not under threat from him. In fact, he stated that some sections of the industry wanted to harm the aforementioned actress.
A constant pattern all round the world
In spite of starting his career in 2000, Sanal could not make much breakthrough. He came to limelight only in 2017, when he decided to give a controversial title to his movie ‘Sexy Durga’. The movie created uproar around the nation because it insulted Maa Durga. No one knows whether the name was deliberately put in to create controversy to upshoot his career.

By all accounts, the man seems to be male feminist. It is a pattern seen all around the world that most of the male feminists ultimately turn out to be sexual predators. Bill Clinton is a prime example of that. It is said that he used his support for women’s rights as a shield to the Monila Levinsky scandal. It won’t be a surprise if Sanal too, turns out to be the one such feminist in the final analysis.
