Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised a slew of initiatives in his Independence Day speech on Sunday, including the Rs 100-trillion ‘Pradhan Mantri Gati shakti Bharat Master Plan’, for integrated infrastructure growth. Regarding the country spends Rs 12 trillion on energy imports every year, Modi set a target of making India energy independent by 2047, by replacing petroleum with other forms of energy and announced a National Hydrogen Mission, the long term plan, which aimed at easier interconnectivity between road, rail, air and waterways to reduce travel time and improve industrial productivity.
According to PM Modi, the Gati Shakti plan will help raise the global profile of local manufacturers and help them compete with their counterparts worldwide, it will also increase the possibilities of new economic zones in the future. PM Modi, in his 90-minute speech, hailed start-up measures for capital and wealth creation and said that his government would develop an e-commerce platform for products manufactured by women SHGs in villages, with a vision for a digitalized India.
PM Modi further said that India needs to increase both manufacturing and exports. “Every product that is sold globally from India is attached to India, which is why I am saying that every product of yours is a brand ambassador for India.”
The prime minister is all set to be‘ Aatma Nirbhar’, emphasizing the “Indian-made” factor: be them the fighter aircraft or mobile phones. He mentioned that India earlier used to import mobile phones in large numbers but is now exporting them. He asked exporters to make goods that were not merely competitive but also high quality because “your goods are brand ambassadors for the country”.
“Gati Shakti will help our local manufacturers turn into globally competitive. This will also develop possibilities for new future economic zones. Walking the road of development, India needs to increase both manufacturing and export,” PM Modi was quoted by news agency ANI.
Thus by announcing the ‘Gati Shakti Plan’, the Modi government took another big step towards its policy and mission of making the country Aatmanirbhar. Aatma Nirbhar Bharat is not just a policy but a national spirit that every citizen of this country should feel. The launch date of this plan is yet to be officially announced by the Modi government. “In our eyes, there must be a dream: A dream to capture the world market,” The PM said in his vision for a new Self-sustained India. It is also important to note that, The Gatishakti Bharat Master Plan has a striking resemblance to the 2019-20 budget proposals, which mentioned similar figures for the same purpose: Infrastructure creation.
