Taking quick action, the Lakshadweep police on Thursday registered a case of sedition against actress Aisha Sultana, the newest ‘shero’ of the liberals and the new face of the Islamists looking to cause impediments in the growth story of the archipelago.
Based on a complaint from BJP’s Lakshadweep unit president C Abdul Khader Haji, the case was registered at Kavaratti police station, under Section 124 A of IPC (sedition) and 153 B (hate speech).
In his complaint, Khader pointed that Aisha Sultana, a native of Chetlat island, had purportedly said that the Centre was using Praful Patel as a bio-weapon on the island. Khader has cited a recent debate on the Malayalam channel in which Aisha Sultana had made such comments.
Reported by TFI, in a TV interview, the Lakshadweep-based actor had levelled serious accusations against the central government, bordering on the lines of sedition. Sultana remarked that the Union government had unleashed the Covid-19 pandemic as a bioweapon in the archipelago.
“Before centre took care, Lakshadweep had zero cases of COVID-19. Now, it is reporting a daily spike of 100 cases. What the centre has deployed is a bioweapon. I can say this clearly that the central government has deployed bioweapon against the people of Lakshadweep,” said Sultana in Malayalam during the TV debate.

She should not be let scott free for such a statement.

Naturally, Aisha’s statements caused an instant outrage as netizens targeted the actress for her ill-conceived notions. While Sultana falsely tried to pin the blame for the surge in cases on the centre and pointed to a conspiracy theory, the fact of the matter is that the previous governments never attempted to develop the health infrastructure of Lakshadweep which has been tested to the hilt amidst the second wave.
After sensing that her statements had backfired, Aisha came up with a meek defence where she used ‘metaphor’ as a reason for her statements that were ‘apparently’ twisted by the media and the public.
“I had used the word bio-weapon in the TV channel debate. I have felt Patel as well as his policies [have acted] as a bio-weapon. It was through Patel and his entourage that Covid-19 spread in Lakshadweep. I have compared Patel as a bioweapon, not the government or the country. You should understand. What else should I call him?” said Aisha.
BJP Yuva Morcha state secretary Adv BG Vishnu had also lodged a complaint against Aisha Sultana at the Thiruvananthapuram Cantonment police station.
Among the policies of the new administration that are being opposed by Congress, communists and the likes of Aisha are: banning candidates with more than two children from contesting Panchayat polls, the removal of illegal storage facilities along the coast, and the strict order to boat owners against leasing/renting their boats to individuals without proper permission from authorities.
Besides, Patel has also given a nod to allow the opening of liquor bars on the island, to promote tourism. Further, he has also proposed to bring in a beef ban and eliminate non-vegetarian food from the menu of Anganwadi children whilst also citing animal preservation as one of the reasons for the ban.

Terming public worry about their land being taken for developmental work as “misplaced and other people’s agenda”, Patel has earlier remarked that “nothing like this will happen whilst questioning.” “Why is it that people are waiting to go to the Maldives, but are not even willing to come to Lakshadweep? It is to develop tourism and for long term benefits that we are introducing the LDAR.” Patel was quoted as saying by the Print.
Despite having a Muslim population of over 96 per cent on the archipelago — the Islamist and communists continue to claim that Patel is trying to undermine the ‘Islamic character’ of Lakshadweep.
