A few days ago, a video of a Muslim boy being thrashed by a man in the compound of a Hindu temple in UP’s Ghaziabad went viral on social media. The liberal brigade of the country without doing any due diligence instantly started playing the judge and jury for the social media trial and adjudicated the entire incident as a clash between the Hindus and Muslims, with the former oppressing the latter. The ‘seculars’ of the country even trended the hashtag #SorryAsif for a full day and guilt-ridden Hindus also hung their heads in shame. However, as the investigation into the incident gained pace, the other side of the story started coming to the forefront as well. One of the priests of the temple whilst giving an interview to a local media outlet made it clear that the boy named Asif was not here to drink water, albeit to indulge in theft.
The priest said Asif was not in the temple compound to drink water but to harass Hindu girls, steal artefacts and other things. He also pointed out the fact that there is a drinking water tap in front of the temple and that the boy was found in the backyard of the temple, thereby making no sense as to why he would go there.

“There are two government taps right outside the temple building. There is another tap for drinking water right after the entrance of the temple and yet he (Asif) was found in the backyard of the temple compound. He was not here for drinking water. These people routinely enter the temple compound for harassing the Hindu girls, defiling the temples and Hindu deities or stealing things. Why would anyone enter the temple compound and walk 500 meters for drinking water when the water is available right outside the temple compound?” the priest questioned.
Terming the entire incident of Asif being beaten for ‘drinking water’ as hogwash, the priest claimed that it was an excuse made up by the likes of Asif whenever they have been caught in the compound.
“The story that he was in the temple for drinking water is simply hogwash. He is not the only one. There are, at least 50 Muslims like him, who enter the temple compound intending to steal valuables. When they are caught, they claim innocence by claiming they were in the compound for drinking water,” he said.
The testimony of the priest further revealed that the temple authorities, after being disturbed by the nuisance of some miscreants from the Muslim community, had to install a signage that read Muslims are not allowed in the temple. He said the board is not a recent development and has been in place for the last 8-10 years. The man also said that the board was put up when the Samajwadi Party was in power.
“There were routine conflicts between the Hindus and the Muslims in the region. The Muslim men and boys used to enter the temple compound and defile the deities and temples. They urinated, spat on the Shivling at the entrance, after which it was decided that a board preventing the entry of Muslims will be mounted on the main gate of the temple compound.”
When asked if the board will be taken down, the priest remained steadfast with the temple authorities’ decision and responded with a point-blank no. He added, “This board will never be taken down. This board has been put up to protect the honour of our mothers, sisters and daughters. We have not put it up to bring it down.”
The revelations by the priest point out to a deeper backstory behind the entire incident. Beating the boy was wrong but what the liberals of the country did by making it a Hindu-Muslim issue was downright abhorrent, cheap and crude. The temple has had a history with Muslim miscreants and therefore those trying to twist the narrative by bringing ‘bad Hindus beat up oppressed Muslims’ undertone are doing a massive disservice to the social fabric of the country by shredding it to pieces.
