Following the lethal attack on BJP National President JP Nadda’s convoy in West Bengal, in which several BJP leaders were injured due to pelting of stones, bricks and glass, the Union Home Ministry led by Amit Shah has come out all guns blazing not just against the state administration, but also senior police officials who were responsible for overseeing the security arrangement for the BJP president’s visit. JP Nadda’s convoy was attacked and pelted with stones when he was travelling to Diamond Harbour in South 24 Parganas to address a rally. He was accompanied by senior leaders of the saffron party like Mukul Roy, Dilip Ghosh and Kailash Vijayvargiya.
In its latest offensive against the compromised administration of West Bengal, the Home Ministry has called three IPS officers on central deputations. These officers were responsible for arranging security for BJP president JP Nadda during his West Bengal visit. The three IPS officers are Bholanath Pandey (SP, Diamond Harbour), Rajeev Mishra (ADG, South Bengal), and Praveen Tripathi (DIG, Presidency Range), reported India Today. While the TMC government is unlikely to yield just yet, the Home Ministry seems to be laying the path for the inevitable imposition of President’s rule in the state of West Bengal.
Earlier, MHA had summoned West Bengal’s Director General of Police (DGP) and chief secretary over the prevailing law and order situation in the state and asked them to appear before the Ministry on December 14. Subsequently, the TMC government of Bengal in a letter informed the Centre that the two senior government officers will not be obliging by the summons.
Now, in all likelihood, the state government is also unlikely to give its nod to the Centre’s move of calling the three senior IPS officers on central deputation. The TMC government will most likely not relieve the three officers of their present duties, thus escalating matters with the Centre, which is in no mood of entertaining the TMC’s defiant shenanigans.
Defiance on the part of the TMC regime is much similar to it paving the way for imposition of President’s rule in West Bengal, which would mean that Mamata Banerjee’s government would be dislodged from power in the run-up to the all-important assembly elections early next year. Already, Amit Shah has launched a scathing attack against the TMC following the brazen attack on JP Nadda’s convoy. The Home Minister had said, “Bengal has descended into an era of tyranny, anarchy and darkness under the Trinamool rule. The manner in which political violence has been institutionalized and brought to the extreme in West Bengal under TMC rule is sad and worrying.”
With the attack on BJP’s National President, the TMC government has made the fight for West Bengal enter its endgame. Amit Shah is now all slated to make the TMC have a painful, humiliating and memorable exit from the politics of Bengal. Needless to say, the TMC will have nobody but its own goons and their political masters occupying high offices to blame for the inevitable rout which the part suffers next year.
Strong action is needed otherwise the situation would further deteriorate drastically.
