Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has perhaps been dwelling on the possibility of his cannon mouth being the root of half of Congress’ problems, and as such, after what we think is some fruitful soul searching, the man appeared yesterday and was all praises for the Modi government, state governments, and the medical fraternity, including all institutions which were working day in and day out to ensure that India overcomes COVID-19 at the earliest.
Speaking to ANI, Adhir Ranjan said, “It is worthy to be pointed out that India, which has a population of 130 crore people, has done a very good job against the pandemic due to the efforts of the Central and state governments, and also because of the doctors and medical fraternity.”
He further went on to add that India has done a far better job than western countries, whether it be the US, UK or other European nations. He went on to say that India has, in the fight against the global pandemic, emerged as a model country for the world. Also, he said that if India seizes this moment, there is no stopping us from becoming the next global superpower.

One might form the opinion that Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is trying his best to end whatever bad blood there exists between him and the BJP. Congress’ Lok Sabha leader’s statements come at a time when the Congress leadership (Gandhis) have made it their lives’ mission to deride Modi governments efforts everyday. As such, Chowdhury’s mindful positioning in support of the BJP government could also just mean him realizing the doom of a party he currently is a part of.
The lockdown has given all of us ample time to ponder upon what we could all make out of ourselves after this is all over, and how we can be better versions of ourselves in the near future. Adhir is perhaps also hopeful of turning his political fortunes around, by signalling to the BJP that he is willing to leave the Congress party?
Of course, this is speculation at best. But going by recent events, the BJP has never been more attractive for senior Congress leaders, many of whom smelled the coffee quite early, and realised that the Gandhi dynasty has brought only ruin to the Grand Old Party of India.
Having said that, it must also be placed on record that Adhir is no virgin to controversies. The man regularly oversteps as the Congress’ Lok Sabha leader, and leaves his teammates embarrassed. Take for example the instance when he called PM Modi and Amit Shah ‘ghuspetiye’ from Gujarat during the furore of CAA and a non-existent nationwide NRC. He also drew a comparison between the supposed iron-lady of India, Indira Gandhi and PM Modi. Referring to Gandhi, Ranjan called her “Maa Ganga”, while in the same breath referred to PM Modi as “gandi naali“. The same man, to the astonishment of his own party members, refused to settle with the fact that Kashmir was India’s internal matter. “How can this be an internal matter,” Adhir blazed during the Article 370 abrogation debate.
Whether the man is now seeking redemption for his previous sins and loose comments, by going all out to praise India’s efforts to combat COVID-19 is yet to be seen. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is a winnable candidate from Bengal, a state where the BJP needs all the help it can get to overthrow Mamata Banerjee. The saffron party wouldn’t really mind Adhir Ji being a part of that crusade.
