In the game of chess, the king needs an army or strong support to sustain and survive the fight. Likewise, a leader’s popularity is ascertained by the people who support him. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is one of the most influential and popular leaders in Indian politics.
He is popular among people coming from all the creed and classes, irrespective of their social backgrounds. On many occasions, the Prime Minister has received accolades and support from famous business personalities of the nation. This time, Sajjan Jindal, an Indian Magnate, batted for the second term for Prime Minister Modi in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections .“Until a year ago, it was looking like Narendra Modi will come back (to power). But, after the recent elections in some states, it looks difficult. My personal view is we ought to give one more term to Narendra Modi. A 10-year term will help him do a lot more things which he couldn’t achieve in the first term”, said Jindal who is famous in the business world for his straightforwardness and honest to goodness values. His remarks come in the backdrop of the setback, the ruling BJP suffered in Assembly elections in three Hindi heartland states recently. He termed the general elections as one of the biggest risks (to the economy) the country is staring at.
Sajjan Jindal is the Chairman, Managing Director of JSW group of companies diversified in steel, mining, energy, sports, infrastructure and software business. JSW Steel is India’s largest private steel producer. His younger brother, Naveen Jindal, is a former Congress MP. He represented Kurukshetra constituency from the state of Haryana till 2014.
In the second term, Jindal believes a Modi-led government could look at disinvestments. “I don’t know if there is any country in the world that has got such a big public sector play other than China. Modi is one person who believes that the government has no business to be in business. I have nothing against the public sector, but it lacks accountability,” he added.
Sajjan Jindal, however, doesn’t believe in the coalition government in which the entire opposition comes together with their mismatched agendas along with unscrupulous propaganda. According to Jindal, “If all the opposition parties are coming together, they will somehow manage, but how long that government will last, that is the question.”A ‘khichdi sarkar’ (coalition government) would be a disaster for the country”.
Jindal’s belief in Narendra Modi is indicative of his support towards NDA which will certainly influence voters to cast their vote in the favour of NDA. Despite the gimmicks of Mahagathabandhan, PM Modi’s popularity is flourishing multifold.
The BJP also hit out at the opposition alliance, saying their coming together was because of the “fear” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and claimed that the saffron party was the real “kingmaker” behind the “mahagathbandhan”.
Sajjan’s remark in the election year is an endorsement of Prime Minister’s work of four and a half year. It is clear that the Modi Wave is not receding and is ready to take on the so-called grand alliance.
