The United Nations “human rights” experts who are already under fire for a motivated report on Kashmir by the United Nations’ Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), have now thrown a new tantrum seeking release of a convicted urban naxal. It seems that infuriated by how India had hit back at the human rights body for legitimising terror in the Kashmir valley, the “human rights” experts are making all kinds of frivolous demands.
UNHRC in its tweet stated that UN expert urge India to release “human rights defender” Dr. G.N. Saibaba on health grounds. Delhi University professor, G.N. Saibaba, whose release the “human rights” experts at the UN are seeking, was convicted last year and sentenced to life imprisonment by a court in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli for having Maoist links. The professor was found guilty along with five others including a JNU student, Hem Mishra for waging war against the country. It was found that Saibaba along with the co-accused had links with the banned organisation, CPI (Maoist). Saibaba had been picked from his house in 2013 after Mishra and two others were caught with incriminating material about the banned organisation.

Not only this, Saibaba had also been mentioned in the letter that had been seized from one of those arrested in connection with Bhima-Koregaon violence. The letter had revealed the plot to assassinate Prime Minister Modi. As per reports, comrade Prakash to whom the letter was addressed had been recruited by the Delhi University professor, Saibaba.
The UN experts who are now seeking “human rights defender” Saibaba’s release are claiming that Saibaba is suffering from severe disabilities. The human rights experts then stated “We would like to remind India that any denial of reasonable accommodation for people with disabilities in detention is not only discriminatory but may well amount to ill-treatment or even torture. In particular, solitary confinement should be prohibited when the conditions of prisoners with disabilities would be made worse by this measure.” It is utterly disgusting how the United Nations reeks of political bias and hypocrisy. While they are worried about human rights violations in a country like India which is governed by the rule of law, they remain silent about how there is blatant violation of human rights in countries like Pakistan and China. It is a matter of shock that the manipulative body of human rights experts at the United Nations stated that Saibaba is a long-standing defender of minority rights in India against corporate interests. Saibaba is not an activist or “human rights” champion as the experts are claiming him to be, he is merely a criminal and a naxal. He deserves to languish in jail and those who actually care for human rights will never demand the release of such a hardened criminal. If the United Nations is so much concerned about “minority rights”, it should focus more on India’s neighbourhood than on India.
Saibaba is a threat to India and it is necessary to confine him in order to maintain peace and tranquillity. Someone who is involved with the people conspiring to assassinate the prime minister of our country cannot be allowed to remain at large. He has been found guilty and sentenced in accordance with the due process and the procedure laid down by law of the land. There is no irregularity with his arrest and the United Nations should have no business demanding his release. This is an outright violation of India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
It is totally unacceptable how the UN Human Rights Council is working actively against India’s interests and is making all attempts at maligning India. This time around they have crossed all limits by interfering with India’s internal affairs. India should take a cue from the United States’ decision to snub the human rights body and withdraw from it. The way India has been the victim of its bias, it should seriously consider withdrawing from the UNHRC.
