Eons ago, a council of Devas assembled in Svargloka. The issue at hand was something serious, because even Brahma was present, seated as he was at the head of the council, flanked on either side by Lords Vishnu and Shiva. Presently, Indradev rose and announced the agenda of the meeting. He said “All of us know that Manushya has lost the true path, Dharma is getting destroyed and yet Manushya is doing nothing about preserving and propagating Dharma. All Dev-ganas are aware that we had formed a special Investigation team (SIT) to get to the bottom of this issue. I now invite the SIT Chief, His lordship, Agnidev, to present the findings of the investigation. AgniDev, now took the center stage. In a blazing voice, he announced “Dharma is getting destroyed because Manushya has forgotten that his Karma in the present life will lead him to Svarga or Narka. He has forgotten that there are powers beyond his reach, powers beyond his comprehension that still exist in the world. My dear Deva-ganas, there is only one way to bring manushya back to the path of Dharma, and that is to remind him that Narka exists and that unless he mends his way, he will suffer in Narka for eternity.” All Deva-ganas stood up and applauded Agnidev and the SIT for this recommendation. Now, Brahma-Dev rose and in a booming voice announced “I curse that the manushya jaati will see Narka everyday for the rest of their life, so that they understand the need to stay on the path of Dharma”

And thus was born the city of Gurgaon, or more specifically, the highway that leads from Delhi to Gurgaon. There are no words in the English dictionary to describe the range of emotions that one feels while driving on this swanky, yet perennially jammed highway as millions of commuters, spend a good part of their morning trying to weave a path that will lead them to the Narka called Gurgaon at the earliest. Gurgaon (and the NH8 that leads to it) are much worse than Narka to be honest. Even Narka is governed by a set of laws. But here in Gurgaon, no laws apply. Each man is on his own, or worse still at the mercy of the Rakshasas that go by the name of Gurgaon Traffic police.

The Rakshasa roopi-Gurgaon Traffic police play the part of ensuring that the quality of Narka continues to deteriorate every single day. One day, they block U turns, on other days, they set up roadblocks, on another day, they stop vehicles, in the middle of the road for checking documents and when all else fails, they grant the permission to screen MSG on a weekday, thus ensuring that the sinful Manushya-jaati suffers every single second and realizes that Dharma is the only true path. But that is not all, In Brahma’s curse, the Asuras also found an opportunity to harass the Manushya jaati. Thus, every single day, you will find fellow drivers, who honk incessantly, who park their vehicles on the highway, who jump lanes, who overspeed, who swear and shout, and as if all this was not enough, there are Mahishasur-types, who roll down their windows and play Punjabi hip-hop at full volume. Surely, this ought to ensure that Manushya jaati stays on the right track.

But that is not all, Indra-Dev as the convenor of the Dev-lok, took it upon himself to ensure that a back up plan to punish the Manushya jaati stays in place, if all else fails (The Rakshasas and Asuras are notoriously unreliable beings). Hence, Indra Dev ensures that it rains like there is no tomorrow in Gurgaon and at the same time, he conspires with Varun-Dev to ensure that he clogs the city, effectively submerging it, its inhabitants and the God-forsaken travellers to this city. In such a situation, vehicles are reduced to becoming boatsas they navigate through the submerged city, with potholes converted into subterranean crypts that lead to Patala Loka and whirlpools that frequently devour deviant manushyas.

And yet, the Manushyas continue to suffer with fortitude and courage. They know that suffering is their lot. They know that the Devas up above meant them to suffer so that they are never led astray from Dharma. Every day, millions of Manushya-ganas start from their abodes at an hour, when even the Devas rest in their loka, only to trudge through the rains, the traffic, the potholes, the Rakshasas and the Asuras to reach their workplaces, drained of all energy, only to encounter Ravanas and other Daityas in their offices that make their miserable lives intolerable.

Because thus was decreed the fate of manushyas.

Dear Frustmanoos (as u have described urself), you have just now tried to add another chapter to the great indian mythology. Your frustration levels are very much evident from your post and a big KUDOS for the same. We all are frustrated, yes, i agree. But let me clear some of your concepts on this epic which is actually a creation of your frustrated thoughts. Gurgaon never was born or created as a NARAK as u have described. It was actually a swarg. The so called manushya jati, which i doubt exist in present times, i think we all are Rakshasas only. And when the Rakshasas, in huge numbers stomped and barged into swarg, the condition of the Swarg is right in front of you and exactly the way you described it. These rakshasas, overgrown and outnumbered, migrated from different narak’s or swarg’s (whatever) has now actually taken over every single part of the Swarg. The Gurgaon traffic policeman whom you have termed as rakshas too, is actually braving his heart out there to control this massive crowd that has choked the city, that was once a swarg.

I am right now not stuck in a traffic jam that i have enough time to lengthen this. Just wanna say is DO NOT exaggerate or rebuild a chapter out of your frustration level as this will further spike up the ante in the guys. Now, when the city is actually a narak with all of us a part of it, lets have some courage to live through.

(a manushya from gurgaon – a true gurgaonite by birth – by heart & soul – pity on the current condition of the city)

u were born here so thats y u dont realize the power of proper planning and how actually gurgaon has far better but far poorly managed infrastructure as compared to almost all indian cities. and the cops u are saying about?? where are they. i was flashed a gun just oppsite huda metro station front of fortis, at 10pm thrusday evening, and there was not a single policewala or traffic cop…i silently encurred a loss of 5k for rear bumper of my car (better than getting shot or intimated by gun point) braving thier souls my foot….
bhai tum traffic me hi stuck raho.
i totally agree with the authors point of view.

ya, we have to keep our-self stuck in traffic coz we provide shelter to all poor ppl who come from different places for work and food which their city can’t provide, feel pity but its true :(

Totally agree to it word by word. A victim of challan for no reason (with all documents in place, only the Insurance was in soft copy which they refused to accept and took 1500 to return the RC) a day before his highness MSG arrived and choked almost to death due to traffic on the big day of screening. You have really spoken out for my recent plight in this post! Very well done!

Very true. The very existence of Gurgaon corroborates the existence of Devtas (Gods) up there since the Manushyajati responsible for Gurgaon’s maintenance and development has surrendered asking devtas to take over. Even the Devtas seem to have failed in imparting Sadbudhh
    to Manushyajati of Gurgaon.

Well buddy get a break..its not because of people travelling to gurgaon for work, that gurgaon is a mess..its because of poor planning by authorities..ALSO.. if people stop coming to Grgn, the whole economy of the city will collapse..what you guys enjoy in terms of malls, metro, roads (wherever present) is because of big companies which employ people from NCR..so before commenting exercise your brain and be logical…

    • Avatar Mak View says:

Is that u who is developing the economy of Gurgaon?? A big LOL. Gurgaon made its own economy and cities which were not capable threw their stuff in Gurgaon making it look like this. If Gurgaon’s economy is because of you, LUL, Gurgaon doesn’t need it. Logical enough??

Maan..u are a frustrated..egoistic person. Look at the tone of your comment. Gurgaon was a flatland with villages and farms…companies came here as Delhi was already full and had run out of spaces to build offices. Hence it grew the economy of Gurgaon..a city is what its people are….

    • Avatar Mak View says:

Again same illogical saying, i asked, is that u who brought companies here? is that u who transformed it to smart city? :D Shout, Work and Leave, after all your city is swarg, LUL I can see from the post and reply on my comments who is frustrated and who is trying to defend, :P :) Nevertheless, do come back in Gurgaon :)

Gurgaon was, is and will be a nice city. A city that has borne the burden of unplanned rigorous development and still supports millions with food and shelter and a nice lifestyle. Any person who is born and brought up here knows that it was a beautiful city then and is the same now. It is just because of an explosion of people who came to the city with lack of basic understanding towards respecting fellow people that is resulting into chaos. It cannot be blamed on a city for the kind of mess that it is facing, its the people. I would request you not to blame the city, but rather try and be more civilized and cooperative towards others. This is how we will be able to have a great city and a great culture.

Nice article TFI, but some points to consider…
Firstly, Gurgaon has made a name on its own, independently, even though previous government tried aggressively to shift focus towards other developing cities in Haryana. The reason of deterioration of Living conditions in Gurgaon is because it received a very small part of revenue it generated, for infrastructure growth, which led to the problems described in the above article. Also, there were some lags in town-planning in the beginning, which worsen when people started pouring in from all parts of country, due to IT boom.
Secondly, although I believe portraying Cops as rakshasas was written with a humorous angle, yet the topic seems to be highly diverted and lacks facts. If you compare the overall traffic management today with that in 2010-11, you’ll get the real picture, how hard these people are striving to maintain traffic flow and at the same time law and order. And even then if you think it is an easy job and they are blocking turns and stopping vehicles out of sheer fun, stand for an hour during peak time in the center of the road in the evening at any of these hotspots (Hero Honda Chowk, Iffco Chowk, Rajiv Chowk), and you may end up watering the ground just below.(Just “Kidding”). These men in uniform have to stand for hours, manage traffic, tolerate rude and stubborn brats, handle there superiors and bureaucrats, yet they are ready to help anyone and everyone, provided they are given respect, which they often do not get, like in the above article.

    Hey !

First and foremost, I’d like to say that this is brilliantly written and super funny! Having said that I do have a few things I’d like to say :
I have lived i gurgaon since 1993..Yup, that’s right,.. before the dawn of the dreaded NH8. INfact the entire city has come up before my eyes and I have grown up in Gurgaon.

I recently relocated to Bangalore ( december 2015) and have to say that all those years and days of me cursing the traffic and conditions in Gurgaon, I TAKE THEM BACK. Boss, Bangalore aake dekho ! Karnataka has the highest road tax in the country, and ironically, there are NO ROADS. Not to forget the traffic ( which gets built up way more because of the pathetic road conditions ). There are 4.3 Million people in this city and gurgaon has around 172 thousand people , I guess you can figure out the difference in numbers there My point is that Gurgaon is actually bearing the brunt here, and not the other way around Everyone comes TO gurgaon because their offices are there. What about the people who live in gurgaon, they didn’t sign up for this. The question is , how many of us are ready to do something about it ? Gurgaon is part of Dehi NCR, are we bothered or are we just here to state our frustrations ? Stereotyping and pointing fingers is super easy but I strongly feel, calling Gurgaon NARAK is a little too far fetched. Come to Bangalore, travel in the city between 7 am – 8 pm at any given day , you never know, you may want to change your opinion about Gurgaon. I know I have :)

Having said the above, I don’t disregard your opinion in anyway, everyone is entitled to theirs. However it’s time we really DO something about it. :)

Would love to hear your views on the same.

    Thanks,

    Aditi
