CBI’s Digital Breakthrough Puts TVK Chief Vijay Under Renewed Scrutiny in Karur Stampede Probe
Share on FacebookShare on X

The investigation into the tragic Karur stampede has taken a significant turn, with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) reportedly recovering deleted digital footage that could reshape the trajectory of the case. The development has placed TVK Chief Vijay firmly back under the scanner, intensifying legal and political scrutiny around the events that led to one of Tamil Nadu’s deadliest political rally disasters.

The stampede, which occurred on September 27, 2025, during a rally organised by Vijay’s party, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), claimed at least 41 lives and left dozens injured. The tragedy unfolded when an unexpectedly large crowd surged toward the stage and campaign convoy, leading to chaos and fatal overcrowding.

Controversy and Questions: Joseph Vijay’s TVK Candidate Choices Under Scrutiny

According to emerging reports, investigators have now managed to retrieve previously deleted video footage from digital devices linked to the event. This footage is believed to contain crucial visual evidence regarding crowd movement, security arrangements, and the sequence of events leading up to the stampede. The recovery is seen as a major breakthrough, potentially offering clarity on whether lapses in planning or execution contributed directly to the disaster.

The fresh evidence comes at a time when TVK Chief Vijay has already undergone multiple rounds of questioning by the CBI. In recent weeks, he appeared before the agency’s headquarters in New Delhi for prolonged interrogation sessions lasting several hours. (The Times of India) The agency has been probing key aspects such as the delay in his arrival, crowd control measures, and the role of event organisers.

The CBI’s investigation itself was initiated following intervention by the Supreme Court, which mandated an independent probe to ensure transparency and public trust. The court underscored the need for an impartial inquiry, given the scale of the tragedy and its nationwide impact. (www.ndtv.com)

With the recovery of deleted footage, investigators are expected to re-examine earlier testimonies and reconstruct the timeline of events with greater precision. Sources indicate that the footage could reveal whether established safety protocols were followed and whether authorities were adequately prepared for the massive turnout, which far exceeded initial estimates.

The development has once again placed TVK Chief Vijay at the centre of a politically sensitive case. As both a popular film star and an emerging political leader, his role in the incident has been closely watched by supporters and critics alike. The probe has also drawn in other political figures and officials, widening its scope beyond just the organisers.

Eyewitness accounts and earlier findings had already pointed to multiple contributing factors, including overcrowding, inadequate barricading, and delayed crowd management responses. The rally, initially planned for a limited number of attendees, reportedly saw attendance swell far beyond permitted limits, exacerbating risks.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, TVK Chief Vijay had expressed deep sorrow and pledged financial assistance to victims’ families. However, public reactions have remained divided, with some defending him as a victim of systemic failures, while others have demanded accountability for what they describe as preventable lapses.

The political ramifications of the case continue to unfold. With Tamil Nadu’s electoral landscape heating up, the investigation has inevitably acquired a political dimension. Allegations, counter-allegations, and competing narratives have emerged, with different parties attempting to frame the incident in ways that align with their broader strategies.

Meanwhile, the CBI has maintained that its investigation is strictly evidence-driven. The agency has also examined physical evidence, including campaign vehicles and on-ground logistics, to piece together a comprehensive understanding of the incident.

The newly recovered footage could prove pivotal in determining the next steps—whether it leads to formal charges, strengthens existing allegations, or provides exculpatory evidence. Legal experts suggest that digital evidence of this nature often plays a निर्णing role in establishing accountability in complex cases involving large public gatherings.

For TVK Chief Vijay, the stakes could not be higher. As he attempts to transition from cinema to politics, the outcome of this investigation may significantly influence his public image and political trajectory. The case has already become a defining moment in his nascent political career.

As the probe progresses, all eyes remain on the CBI’s next move. Whether the recovered footage ultimately implicates individuals or highlights systemic failures, it is expected to bring the country closer to understanding the truth behind the Karur stampede—an event that continues to haunt the public conscience.
