India has signalled its readiness to play a meaningful role in the recovery and long-term stability of Gaza, with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirming that New Delhi is prepared to step in once conditions on the ground become clearer.

Speaking in Jerusalem after high-level meetings during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to Israel, Misri said India recognised both the urgency and responsibility of contributing to Gaza’s post-conflict recovery.

“Yes, we do see a role. What exactly that role will be depends on gaining more clarity as to how things will actually develop on the ground in Gaza,” he said, underlining that India’s commitment to assist remained firm.

Development Experience and Ground-Level Preparedness

Highlighting India’s long-standing engagement in international development and humanitarian assistance, Misri stressed that the country possessed specialised expertise suited to post-conflict reconstruction.

“India has very specific capabilities and capacities that would be of considerable relevance in a situation like the one on the ground in Gaza,” he said.

He pointed to India’s extensive portfolio of projects supporting Palestinian communities. According to the Foreign Secretary, New Delhi is currently implementing initiatives worth nearly $170 million across education, healthcare, capacity building and social welfare.

In addition, projects valued at around $40 million are in the pipeline, reflecting continued commitment to long-term regional development. Misri said these investments demonstrated India’s preparedness to expand its engagement as stability gradually returns.

He added that India would be ready to act when peace efforts advance, noting that the country would have the capacity to contribute “at the right time on the ground” to meet humanitarian and developmental needs.

Modi’s Call for Peace, Stability, and Dialogue

Reinforcing this position, Prime Minister Modi used a joint press briefing with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to underline the moral and diplomatic urgency of resolving the crisis.

“Humanity must never suffer because of conflict,” Modi said, describing the Gaza Peace Plan as a pathway towards lasting and fair peace. He reaffirmed India’s support for diplomatic initiatives and stressed the importance of sustained dialogue with all nations.

Referring to his address to the Knesset, Modi reiterated his backing for the US-led Gaza Peace Initiative, which has been endorsed by the United Nations Security Council.

He said the proposal offered a route to “just and durable peace” for the Middle East and addressed the long-standing Palestine issue. Calling for collective responsibility, he urged global efforts to be guided by wisdom, courage and humanity, while acknowledging that lasting peace required patience and persistence.

Shared Resolve Against Terrorism

The Prime Minister also highlighted the shared resolve between India and Israel in confronting radicalism and terrorism.

“India and Israel are clear that there is no place for terrorism in the world. Terrorism cannot be accepted in any form,” Modi said, adding that both countries would continue working together against extremist threats and their supporters.

The visit marks Modi’s second trip to Israel since assuming office, following his landmark visit in 2017. As diplomatic engagement deepens, India’s latest statements reflect a growing ambition to combine humanitarian assistance, development expertise and political dialogue in shaping Gaza’s post-conflict future and restoring hope to communities affected by prolonged conflict.
