Terming Kashmir as ‘Azad’ to Sharing Wrong Map of India: Why is Congress Parroting Pakistani Lies?

From controversial ‘Azad Kashmir’ references to posting an incorrect map, Congress faces mounting criticism for echoing narratives that challenge India’s sovereignty

congress shared wrong map of India- why inc is parroting pakistani lies

Once again, the Congress party finds itself at the center of a storm and this time, it hits right at the heart of India’s national sovereignty. The latest controversy erupted when the official X (formerly Twitter) handle of the Kerala Congress shared a post criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign visit. However, it wasn’t the criticism that drew attention; it was the map used in the graphic. Shockingly, Jammu and Kashmir was shown as a part of Pakistan, a mistake too grave to be dismissed as mere oversight.

For a country where Kashmir is not just a geographical region but a symbol of national unity, pride, and sacrifice, this visual error was not taken lightly. Social media exploded with outrage. The post was quickly deleted by Kerala Congress and replaced with a corrected map but by then, the damage had been done. Screenshots were already circulating, and so were the questions: Was this a simple mistake, or something more sinister?

BJP Slams Congress: A Pattern of Provocation?

The Bharatiya Janata Party wasted no time in calling out Congress. According to BJP leaders, this was not the first time the opposition party or its affiliated handles have tampered with India’s territorial integrity on social media. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla accused Congress of pushing a calculated agenda, not just committing a technical error. He pointed to past instances, similar posts by the national Congress handle and even by Tamil Nadu Congress, where India’s borders were misrepresented.

“This isn’t a coincidence. It’s a pattern,” Poonawalla said. “Either Congress is consistently negligent about India’s sovereignty, or worse, it’s deliberately playing into anti-India narratives.”

A Map Is Not Just a Map; It’s National Identity

The graphic that triggered the outrage was intended to criticize PM Modi’s foreign visits. It highlighted in red the countries he had visited, contrasting them with others marked grey and labelled as a “bucket list.” But the most glaring issue wasn’t the satire, it was the distorted map of India, where parts of Jammu & Kashmir were shown outside Indian territory, implicitly assigning them to Pakistan and China.

For any political party, especially one with the legacy of the Congress, this goes beyond digital oversight. A map is not just an image; it’s a statement of national boundaries, identity, and pride. Misrepresenting it, whether intentionally or through negligence, is an affront to every Indian citizen.

BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya took to X, sharing the now-deleted post’s screenshot and writing, “Shocking, but not surprising. The Congress map handed over parts of Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan and China.” He added that this was yet another example of Congress echoing narratives that align more closely with Pakistan’s propaganda than India’s position.

A History of Questionable Narratives

This incident isn’t an isolated one. In recent years, Congress and its affiliated accounts have frequently flirted with language and imagery that echo Pakistan’s vocabulary on Kashmir including references to “Azad Kashmir,” a term Pakistan uses to describe Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

It raises a deeply troubling question: Why does a national political party keep amplifying the same language and imagery that India’s adversaries use to undermine its unity on international platforms?

Such narratives directly contradict India’s constitutional stance, diplomatic position, and the emotional sentiment of millions of Indians. They also embolden external enemies and weaken India’s image globally.

Congress’s Silence: Lack of Accountability or Arrogance?

What makes the situation worse is the Congress party’s response or rather, the lack of it. Despite the controversy, there has been no formal apology or official statement from Congress leadership. No one has taken responsibility for the graphic, nor has any corrective action been communicated publicly.

This silence, in the face of a national outrage, speaks volumes. A party that aspires to govern the country cannot afford to be careless or indifferent about something as fundamental as the map of India.

Conclusion: National Integrity Is Not a Political Plaything

India’s borders are not a topic of partisan debate, they are sacrosanct. They represent our sovereignty, sacrifices, and unified spirit. Any political party, regardless of its ideology or opposition to the ruling government, must respect that. The repeated distortion of maps, followed by silence and deletion, signals either a disturbing level of irresponsibility or the propagation of a dangerous ideological agenda.

In a time where disinformation spreads faster than facts, and international eyes are always watching, national parties must rise above political games and treat matters of sovereignty with the seriousness they deserve.

The Indian public is watching and remembering. Mistakes involving the map of India don’t fade with a delete button. They linger, and they shape perceptions. The Congress party must ask itself: Is this the legacy it wants to leave behind?
