Growing concerns are emerging over the role of political consultancy firm I-PAC (Indian Political Action Committee) in West Bengal’s internal affairs, with intelligence inputs suggesting the organization is allegedly attempting to disrupt law and order in the state. Sources indicate that I-PAC may be involved in the creation and circulation of fabricated videos in collaboration with certain journalists, purportedly to construct a false narrative and provoke unrest.
This is not the first time I-PAC has come under scrutiny. The group was recently accused of targeting Padma Shri awardee Kartik Maharaj in a similar campaign of misinformation, further raising questions about its methods and intentions.
However, the more alarming aspect, critics say, lies in the apparent authority the private agency is exerting over government institutions. Serious questions are being raised about the legitimacy of I-PAC’s influence over state machinery, especially regarding police operations and administrative decision-making.
‘Trinamool ministers may choose to take direction from I-PAC, that remains an internal matter for their party,’ said a political observer. ‘If the agency is deciding who holds what position within the party or orchestrating when Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee speaks or remains silent, it’s their prerogative. But once such influence extends into government functioning, it crosses a line.’
The allegations suggest that I-PAC, which holds no constitutional authority or legal mandate, may be issuing directives to officials within the police force and state administration, a scenario being described by many as a direct affront to democratic norms.
Amid these serious allegations, demands for an independent investigation are intensifying. Observers and political figures are calling for a probe into how a private entity from outside the state has managed to gain such influence in Bengal’s governance processes.
‘The people of West Bengal have a right to know who is facilitating this dangerous encroachment,’ said one political analyst. ‘This situation calls for transparency and accountability, the foundations of any democratic society.’
As the situation unfolds, the spotlight remains firmly on I-PAC’s expanding role and the unanswered question of who within the system is enabling this controversial overreach.
