In a surprising twist in the murder case of Raja Raghuvanshi, a tourist has accidentally captured what is now believed to be the last known video of Raja and his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi — just hours before Raja’s tragic death in Meghalaya.
Raja and Sonam, a newlywed couple from Indore, were honeymooning in the scenic hills of Meghalaya when tragedy struck. On May 23, they were last seen together, and days later, on June 2, Raja’s lifeless body was found in a gorge near Cherrapunji (Sohra). The case shocked the nation when investigators accused Sonam of plotting Raja’s murder along with her alleged lover and a group of accomplices.
Now, an unexpected piece of evidence has surfaced — a video unintentionally recorded by a tourist that offers a glimpse into the couple’s final peaceful moments.
The Accidental Footage
The video was captured on the morning of May 23 by a tourist identified by his Instagram handle, @m_devsingh. He was descending the famous trekking trail leading to the Double Decker Root Bridge in Nongriat village when he casually filmed a panoramic view of the area. In the background, a young couple can be seen walking uphill — later identified as Raja and Sonam.
“I had no idea I had recorded them until the news broke,” the tourist shared in his Instagram post. “When I looked back at my footage, I realized that the couple walking in the opposite direction were Raja and Sonam. It’s chilling to know this might have been one of the last times Raja was seen alive.”
He noted that Sonam was wearing a white shirt — similar to one later found among Raja’s belongings — which further confirmed their identities. The video has since gone viral and has been submitted to the police as potential evidence.
A Glimpse Into Their Final Hours
The footage is haunting in retrospect. Raja appears calm and unaware, casually walking beside his wife through the lush, scenic hills. There’s no indication of the tragedy that was to come. The video has added an emotional layer to the investigation, making the case more than just a headline — it’s a human story of love, betrayal, and loss.
@M_devsingh wrote, “Every time I watch the video, I feel a deep sadness. Raja had no idea what was waiting for him ahead. I hope this helps bring him justice.”
The Investigation So Far
Sonam Raghuvanshi was arrested on June 9 in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, after being on the run for days. Police claim she conspired with her lover Raj Kushwaha and three others to murder Raja by pushing him off a cliff. All five are currently in custody.
The accidental video is now being considered a crucial piece of evidence that confirms the couple was together and alive at Nongriat on the morning of May 23 — helping investigators reconstruct the final hours leading up to Raja’s death.
