A key witness has come forward with a chilling encounter involving Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the high-profile murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi. Just hours before she surrendered to police, Sonam was spotted on a bus ride, watching social media reels about the murder case, and dismissed them as “nonsense.”
A Chance Encounter on a Bus to Gorakhpur
Ujala Yadav, a student from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, was traveling on the same bus as Sonam on the night of June 8. Speaking to India Today, Yadav described Sonam as visibly nervous and attempting to stay inconspicuous, her face partially hidden by a dupatta. She was accompanied by two men, one of whom had his face covered with a white cloth.
Curious about Sonam’s tense demeanor and the video she was watching, Yadav glanced at her phone. It turned out to be an Instagram reel discussing the sensational murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, Sonam’s husband. When Yadav casually asked about the content, Sonam brusquely replied, “Don’t watch such nonsense,” and quickly turned off the video.
“She looked tense and kept asking how far Gorakhpur was,” Yadav recalled, adding that Sonam appeared anxious and on edge throughout the journey.
Murder on Honeymoon: The Shocking Case
The murder of Raja Raghuvanshi has captivated national attention for weeks. The newlywed couple from Indore had traveled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon but mysteriously vanished on May 23. After days of uncertainty, Raja’s body was recovered from a deep gorge in Cherrapunji on June 2.
The investigation soon turned grim as Meghalaya police uncovered what they allege to be a premeditated murder, orchestrated by Sonam in collaboration with her lover Raj Kushwaha and three accomplices- Vishal Chauhan, Anand Kurmi, and Akash Rajput.
According to investigators, Sonam allegedly lured Raja to the edge of the cliff, where the group pushed him to his death. The motive, police say, was rooted in an ongoing extramarital affair and a desire to eliminate Raja.
Arrest and Aftermath
After evading police for over a week, Sonam eventually turned herself in to authorities in Ghazipur on June 9. Her brief appearance on the bus the previous night now offers chilling insight into her state of mind just before the arrest.
Police have taken Ujala Yadav’s statement as part of their ongoing investigation. Authorities are also verifying if the two unidentified men traveling with Sonam had any role in helping her evade the law.
Public Reaction and Legal Developments
The case has sparked widespread media and public interest, especially on social media platforms where netizens have been dissecting every twist. Many are now expressing outrage over Sonam’s apparent indifference toward the murder and her remarks dismissing the case as “nonsense.”
All five accused are now in custody and face multiple charges, including conspiracy and murder. The case is likely to move to trial in the coming weeks, with police continuing to gather digital and forensic evidence.
