Delivering Justice to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian government announced early Wednesday that it had conducted precision strikes targeting terrorist infrastructure across the border. The military action code named Operation Sindoor comes in the aftermath of the brutal Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen.
According to the Indian Ministry of Defense (MoD), the military action was carried out in a “focused, measured and non-escalatory” manner. The ministry emphasized that no Pakistani military facilities were targeted in the strikes, which were aimed strictly at terror launchpads and infrastructure responsible for plotting attacks on Indian soil.
“These steps come in the wake of the barbaric Pahalgam terrorist attack,” the MoD said in its official statement, “India has demonstrated considerable restraint in selection of targets and method of execution.”
Nine Terror Sites Targeted
The MoD confirmed that nine terror-related sites were struck in total. These included targets in both mainland Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Strategic locations such as Bahawalpur, Kotli, Muzaffarabad, and Muridke were among those hit.
Advanced Weaponry Used
According to unconfirmed but widespread reports, India employed high-precision weaponry in the strike, including French-origin SCALP missiles and the air-launched version of the Indo-Russian BrahMos cruise missile and Rafale jets. These weapons were deployed from Indian Air Force fighter jets, signaling a high level of operational readiness.
The night of the strike was marked by an unprecedented level of preparedness. Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had appeared on national television channels the previous evening, widely interpreted as a strong signal to Pakistan. A mock drill was reportedly conducted ahead of the strikes to simulate the Operation Sindoor and ensure flawless execution.
Escalation at the LoC
Simultaneously, the Line of Control (LoC) in the Jammu region saw heavy artillery exchange. Indian Army positions in the Poonch-Rajauri sectors, particularly Mendhar and Bhimber Gali, came under fire from Pakistani forces. The Indian Army responded “appropriately in a calibrated manner,” as per their official handle on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
“Pakistan again violates the Ceasefire Agreement by firing artillery in Bhimber Gali in the Poonch-Rajauri area,” read an Indian Army post. The reciprocal artillery barrage indicates that the situation at the LoC is deteriorating rapidly.
Pakistan Confirms Casualties
The Pakistani government has acknowledged that three people were killed and 12 injured in the strikes. While the Indian side maintains that military installations were deliberately avoided, Islamabad asserts that a response is already underway.
