Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on an official visit to Saudi Arabia from April 22 to 23 at the invitation of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman. This marks PM Modi’s third visit to the Kingdom, following his earlier trips in 2016 and 2019.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the visit builds on the momentum of the Crown Prince’s state visit to India in September 2023. During that visit, he participated in the G20 Summit and co-chaired the first meeting of the India-Saudi Arabia Strategic Partnership Council in New Delhi.
India and Saudi Arabia have long-standing relationships of centuries through people-to-people connections, culture, and commerce. Over the past decade, their relationship has become a comprehensive and enduring strategic relationship.
Bilateral engagement comprises a range of important areas such as political dialogue, defence, security, energy, trade, investment, health, education, and technology. Institutional mechanisms and high-level interactions have further contributed to ties, and Saudi Arabia has become a key strategic partner of India in the Gulf.
The forthcoming visit by PM Modi is an indication of increased importance India attaches to its relationship with Saudi Arabia. The visit is expected to explore new avenues of cooperation and solidify ongoing joint initiatives. It will also serve as a platform for discussions on regional and global developments of mutual concern.
The MEA underlined that the visit would help deepen this “multi-faceted partnership,” particularly in new fields such as renewable energy, digital transformation, and innovation.
While both nations press on with closer cooperation, the visit is aimed at reaffirming shared commitments and broadening the strategic agenda between India and Saudi Arabia.
