Caste census: As the 2024 elections approach, political tension in India continues to rise. The opposition, known as the INDI alliance, has made a strategic move that has ignited controversy across the nation. Despite the strict orders of the Patna High Court, the Tejashwi Yadav-led administration has decided to push forward with the caste census. To make matters more complicated, they have adopted the slogan, “Jitni Aabadi, Utna Haq” (Rights proportional to the population).
However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was more than ready for this unexpected development. With no margin for error, he addressed the Congress-led opposition, reminding them of their history of prioritizing minority appeasement over national security.
In his words, PM Modi stated, “Since yesterday, Congress leaders are saying ‘jitni aabadi utna haq’… I was wondering what the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would be thinking. He used to say that the minority has the first right to the country’s resources… But now Congress is saying that the population of the community will decide who will have the first right to the country’s resources…”
But PM Modi did not stop there. He added, “So now do they (Congress) want to decrease the rights of the minority? Do they want to remove the minorities?… So, should the Hindus, who have the largest population, come forward and take all their rights?… I am repeating Congress party is no longer being run by Congress people. Senior leaders of Congress are sitting with their mouths shut, neither are they asked, nor do they dare to speak after seeing all this. Now Congress has been outsourced…”

For the first time, PM Modi, well known for his “nation above all” stance, sent a clear message: Do not test the patience of the Hindus!

PM Modi reiterated that the poor of the nation hold the first right to any resources, and there should be no special provisions for any community. He stressed, “For me, the poor is the biggest caste in the country. If the poor are empowered, the country will benefit as a whole. The poor, whether they belong to the Dalit, Adivasi, OBC, or general category, all deserve our attention. The first right on our resources is that of the poor.”
The opposition’s move to push for a caste-based census has raised concerns about potential division and discrimination in resource allocation. The slogan, “Jitni Aabadi, Utna Haq,” appears to prioritize communities based on their population size, which directly contradicts PM Modi’s stance of equality for all.
PM Modi’s emphasis on the poor as the most significant caste in the country reflects his commitment to inclusive development. He firmly believes that empowering the economically disadvantaged, regardless of their caste, is the key to national progress. By prioritizing the poor, he is sending a message of unity and equality.
As the 2024 elections approach, PM Modi’s message resonates with many Indians who prioritize national unity and the welfare of all citizens. His call to focus on the poor, irrespective of caste, reinforces the idea that a strong and inclusive India can only be built by addressing the needs of the most vulnerable.
