Andaz Apna Apna [1994]:

This cult comedy featuring Aamir Khan and Salman Khan is a goldmine for memes. The film’s hilarious dialogues, including “Teja main hoon, mark idhar hai,” and the iconic phrase “Do dost ek hi pyale mein chai peeyenge” have become synonymous with comical situations and friendship. Looking at this movie today, none can imagine that this ironically could just manage to recover its costs in its original theatrical run.

Sooryavansham [1999]:

Imagine a movie, that is not so famous, either by commerce or by content, and yet, it becomes so famous, that people want to see it by hook or by crook. Thank SET MAX, the television channel, for continuously casting “Sooryavansham” ad nauseam, so much so that the ‘Zeher waali Kheer’, coupled by the blood vomit, actually became a freaking meme!

Hera Pheri series [2000 onwards]:

Who would have thought that in the same year, a writer would give one of the biggest disasters of Bollywood, as well as a movie that would set a legacy of its own. But that’s Neeraj Vora for you. In January 2000, he wrote ‘Mela’, a movie Aamir Khan would definitely not like to keep in his filmography. However, barely 2 months later, he had come up with ‘Hera Pheri’, a movie that was ironically a remake, and yet, became a cult classic, creating an irrefutable legacy of its own. Its sequel, ‘Phir Hera Pheri’, coincidentally directed by Vora, is not a movie, it’s actually memes compiledinto a movie!

Ajnabee [2001]:

It seems as if Neeraj Vora wasn’t done yet. Only the next year, he penned another classic, this time in the form of Ajnabee. While the movie was a moderate success, with its songs becoming a rage, little did anyone realize that years later, this would acquire a cult status, thanks to the memes around it! From “Sorry, wrong Number!”, to the devilish smirk by Akshay Kumar, and the iconic “Everything is Planned!”, the film had meme worthy moments of its own!

Gadar: Ek Prem Katha [2001]:

This movie has a cult following of its own. When the phenomena of memes began to catch up, “Gadar”, directly or indirectly, was probably the first to capitalize on it. It is also one of the reasons why even uber cool Gen Z kids, who have almost negligible idea of classics, are anticipating for the release of “Gadar 2”!, courtesy Tara Paaji and his handpump breaking skills!

Run [2004]:

Ever thought that a movie would be salvaged by someone, who was not even the lead? But that’s the power of Lord Vijay Raaz, who has managed to make “Run”, an otherwise average action drama, a watchable movie, thanks to his impeccable comic timing, each worthy of a meme!

Dhamaal [2007]:

Indra Kumar might have done many sins, but “Dhamaal” ain’t one of them. This movie is a literal meme fest, parodying scenes from classics around the world. “Dhamaal” (2007) gained fame through memes for its hilarious characters and comic moments.

The memes have cemented “Dhamaal’s” place in meme culture and popular comedic references. Also, don’t forget Lord Vijay Raaz’s epic cameo!

Gangs of Wasseypur [2012]:

“Gangs of Wasseypur” (2012) achieved meme stardom for its gritty storytelling and memorable dialogues. The film’s intense lines, like “Beta, tumse na ho payega,” and iconic characters, such as Sardar Khan, Sultan Qureshi and Perpendicular, have been hilariously repurposed in memes, solidifying its place in internet culture.

Drishyam [2015]:

Ever thought that there would be a time, when 2 October won’t be remembered for Gandhi Jayanti? Well, Nishikant Kamat and Ajay Devgn made it possible with ‘Drishyam’! Who would have thought that the remake of an already popular Malayalam film would gain more fame and popularity than the original, and create a legacy of its own? But trust Lord Vijay Salgaonkar with that!

Baahubali franchise [2015]:

“Baahubali” (2015-2017) gained immense meme popularity for its grandiose visuals and epic storytelling. The film’s iconic scenes, such as Prabhas lifting the Shivling and the phrase “Katappa ne Baahubali ko kyun maara,” became viral memes, spreading humor and curiosity across the internet.
