Dwarkadhish Temple Mathura – Guide

Dwarkadhish Temple is one of the most sacred temples of Mathura and Uttar Pradesh which is called by famous names like “Dwarkadhish ka Mandir”, “Dwarkadhish Jagat Mandir” and “King of Dwarkadhish”. The “Dwarkadhish Temple” dedicated to Lord Krishna was built in 1814 by a Krishna devotee. Dwarkadhish Jagat Temple is relatively new to other temples. Dwarkadhish temple is also famous for the wonderful swing festival which is celebrated to mark the beginning of monsoon.

History of this Temple

The history of Dwarkadhish Temple Mathura is about 200 years old. The construction of Dwarkadhish Jagat Temple was started in 1814 by Seth Gokuldas Parikh, a devotee of Lord Krishna and treasurer of Gwalior Raj, but after his death, his son Laxmichandra completed the construction of the temple. In the year 1930, the Dwarkadhish temple was handed over to Acharya Girdharlal ji of Pushtimarg for worship and then worship is done in this temple according to Pushtimargiya method.

Dwarkadhish Temple Mathura IDOLBest time to visit Dwarkadhish Temple Mathura

Janmashtami or the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna is celebrated with enthusiasm and gaiety in the Dwarkadhish temple and throughout the city. The Dwarkadhish temple is decorated like a bride during this festival. Whereas in the temple the idol of Lord Shri Krishna is bathed with water, milk and curd.

Another famous festival of Dwarkadhish Jagat Temple Mathura is the Hindola festival celebrated during the Hindu month of Shravan (August-September) which is also known as “Jhula festival”.

There are also famous festivals Holi is celebrated with great pomp and gaiety in the city of Mathura.

Dwarkadhish Temple Mathura opens at 6:00 AM in the morning and close at 7:00 PM in the evening. Morning aarti is performed at 6:30 AM in the morning and evening aarti is performed at 6:00 PM in the evening.

Dwarkadhish Temple Mathura darshan Places to visit near this temple

Radha Kund

Radha Kund is a very famous pilgrimage site in Mathura, which is considered a major pilgrimage site for Vaishnavas in India. This place is located at a distance of about few kms away from this temple.

Kansa Fort

Kansa Fort is a very ancient fort located in Mathura, dedicated to Kansa, the maternal uncle of Lord Krishna. This Fort is located at a distance of about few kms away from the temple.

Govardhan Hill

Govardhan Hill is located near Vrindavan, 22 km from Mathura. This hill is mentioned in many ancient texts of Hinduism.

Vishram Ghat

Vishram Ghat, situated on the banks of river Yamuna, is considered to be the most sacred and important place in Mathura. This ghat holds a special significance in Hindu mythology.

Mathura Museum

Built in the year 1874, the Mathura Museum boasts of a large collection of sculptures, pottery, paintings, artefacts, coins and much more from Mathura and surrounding areas.

Kusum Sarovar

Kusum Sarovar is a huge tank situated between Govardhan and Radha Kund. This Sarovar is a sacred water body in Mathura which is 450 long and 60 feet deep surrounded by steps on all sides.

How to reach Dwarkadhish Temple Mathura

By Air- The nearest airport from Dwarkadhish Temple Mathura is Agra airport which is at a distance of 58 km from this temple. From here you can easily reach this temple by using local transport services or taxi.

By Train- The nearest railway station from Dwarkadhish Temple is Mathura Railway Station. From here you can easily reach this temple by using local transport services or taxi.

By Road- Mathura is well connected by road to various cities of the state, so traveling to Mathura by bus or road is very convenient. If you have your own private vehicle then you can travel to Mathura comfortably.
