Kokilavan Shani Dev Mandir – Guide
Famous Kokilavan Shani Dev Mandir of Kosi Kalan which is located near Mathura and Vrindavan. This is an ancient temple of Shani Dev and his Guru Barkhandi Baba. Devotees from all over India come here to worship. In this temple a beautiful temple complex with an idol of Lord Shani carved in black stone. Devotee took parikrama of the temple and take a bath in the sacred pool.
History of this Temple
History of Kokilavan Shani Dev Mandir says that when Lord Shri Krishna was born, all the gods came to Nandgaon to see and bless the infant Krishna, Shani Dev came to Nandgaon but Yashoda, the mother of Lord Shri Krishna, refused to meet the newborn Krishna because she was afraid that Shani His son will feel bad if he sees Dev.
Then Lord Shani Dev got angry and spent time doing penance in the forest near Nandgaon. He thought that he was not allowed to meet the infant Krishna because he had punished mankind for their deeds and therefore was simply fulfilling his duty. Lord Shri Krishna pleased with his penance and met Shani Dev in the form of cuckoo. Now there a Shani temple was built.
Kokilavan Shani Mandir Timings
Kokilavan Shani Dev Mandir opens at 8:00 AM in the morning and close at 9:00 PM in the evening. Morning aarti is performed at 9:30 AM in the morning and evening aarti is performed at 8:30 PM in the evening.
