Bhairon Mandir Katra – Guide

Bhairon Mandir is located in Katra at a distance of 3 km from Bhavan or the holy cave of Mata Vaishno Devi. After Mata Vaishno Devi Cave Temple, it is the next pilgrimage centre that pilgrims come to. In fact, the holy journey of Mata Vaishno Devi is considered complete only when devotees offer prayers at the Bhairon Temple, thus, a large number of Hindu pilgrims visit this holy shrine. The temple is situated on the adjacent hill of Trikuta at a height of 2017 meters. An important attraction in the Bhairon temple is a Havan Kund, the ashes of which are considered sacred.

History of this Temple

According to history Bhairon Nath’s severed head was thrown on a hill near Trikuta. While dying, Bhairon realized his mistake and apologized to Mata Vaishno Devi. The goddess not only forgave him but also gave him the boon of being worshiped by devotees who would come to the building to seek blessings.

Ardhkuwari Gufa is one of the most popular places to visit in Katra. The Ardh Kunwari Cave, located halfway to the Vaishno Devi Temple, also serves as a rest house for the pilgrims. The 52 feet long Ardhkuwari is also known as Garbajoon cave.

Charan Paduka Temple

Situated at an altitude of 1030 meters in Katra, the holy Charan Paduka Temple is situated at a short distance from the Banganga river and bridge. Earlier it was a small temple but now it has been transformed into a spectacular and big temple.

Baan Ganga

Baan Ganga is a holy river located in Katra, where devotees often take a dip before continuing with the Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra. Originating from the southern slopes of the Shivalik range of the Himalayas, the river Ganges has two ghats where a large number of Hindu devotees take a holy bath.
