Ragigudda Sri Prasanna Anjaneyaswamy Temple – Guide 

Ragigudda Sri Prasanna Anjaneyaswamy Temple is located in Jayanagar, a suburb of Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka. The temple is dedicated to Sri Anjaneya and is spread over five acres of land on a hillock. The temple is situated amidst serene green landscape surrounding the hill.

History of this temple

‘Gudda’ means hill in Kannada, and it is believed that the temple was made of sheaves of ragi. Since then the temple came to be known as Ragigudda Temple. According to history a woman named Sudharma was the wife of a local chieftain.

She was very pious and noble hearted. One day, the trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva appeared before him as visitors and asked for alms. Impressed by his plight, Sudharma gave him the new crop Raghav Dhanya or Ragi. She was reprimanded by her mother-in-law, who disapproved of Sudharma serving ragi to the visitors.

Sudharma said that if the visitors did not take alms, then they too would have no need of ragi. Tridev was pleased with his devotion and selflessness. He appeared in her dream and expressed his desire to stay near the hill. The Trinity transforms itself into the three stones on which they are carved.

In the year 1969 Ragigudda Sri Prasanna Anjaneyaswamy Temple was built and registered in 1972. The temple evolved over time from a small idol to its present structure.

Ragigudda Sri Prasanna Anjaneyaswamy Temple opens from 08.00 AM to 11.30 AM in the morning and from 05.00 PM to 08.30 PM in the evening.

KR Puram Lake Park

This relatively newly constructed park covers an area of ​​40 acres and is situated on the banks of Lake Vengaihanakere. The park has been developed in an area spread over 20 acres and is gaining popularity as a place worth visiting. With a variety of birds making this lake their home, the lake is a favourite haunt of bird watchers. A separate fishing area for visitors, an artificial island and a range of boating options add to the lake’s popularity.

Bangalore Palace

A highly sought-after place by history and art buffs, Bangalore Palace was purchased by His Highness Chamarajendra Wodeyar in the year 1873 and is known for its Tudor-style architecture and its bastions, battlements along with the castles of England and Normandy is and fortified towers.

This former residence of the Wodeyars, built mostly in wood, is decorated with breath taking wood carvings and houses a museum of paintings by Raja Ravi Varma, the dining table of Sir Mirza Ismail, the Diwan of Mysore, the coat of arms.

Yele Mallappa Shetty Lake

Spread over 260 acres, this lake is undoubtedly one of the largest water bodies in Bangalore. This man-made tank, built in the early 1900s to combat drought, is mostly untouched by development and still maintains its pristine natural glory. The lake is named after the famous philanthropist Yele Mallappa Shetty, who donated a major part of his wealth for the construction of this lake.
